Bit of a mystery why this particular B&B isn’t much higher up the Trip Advisor list. I can only presume it’s the lack of reviews, because there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with it. So just because the B&B ends up rating low on the list, this isn’t a horror show. Oldfield is however, a little bit dated (to the extent where the owners I don’t think have even heard of TA. If they had, I think they’d be encouraging more traffic to the reviews!)
Anyway, here are the pluses and minuses from our recent stay.
Location, location, location! Right on the corner of the Pavilion Gardens give or take about 20 metres. Perfectly located to take in the main sights.
Parking on site (if a bit tight getting out, you are recommended to reverse in).
Excellent breakfast spread.
Clean rooms with complimentary toiletries.
Bottle of Buxton plus teas & coffees, the usual, also in the room
Guest lounge with free to borrow DVD’s.
A bit dated – not necessarily the furniture but the wall paper and the carpets.
We stayed in the front “pink” room and the huge windows meant it was a little cold, especially compared to the rest of the house.
Lots of typed notes and guide to the B&B with manual corrections written on to them. Just print a new one and bind it better!
At £85 for the night for a double the rate is about right.
