“Very Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

This was a one night stay for us and we were in a bit of a hurry the morning of our departure so we didn't take time to avail ourselves of the variety of breakfast items available. There were eggs for cooking as an example. Yogurt, fruits, breads, and cheeses are only some of the things available for a self serve breakfast. The room was of ample size, clean and comfortable. The owner was friendly and helpful.

I have stayed here as a walker, cyclist and motorbiker (because it has overhead shelter for a bike), as a couple or solo - it's also great to book with friends, as everyone can find something to do locally..
Being able to use the large communal kitchen/sitting room as well as your own en suite bedroom with TV etc. makes for very flexible accommodation - you are not tied to an owner's schedule. If you want to get up early to see the sunrise on Hay Bluff and come back for breakfast later, you can. If it's raining, you've been to every one of the myriad bookshops in the Independent Republic of Hay within a few hundred yards and want to make a cup of green tea or proper coffee, you can. If you want to meet other guests and share an evening meal, or eat in solitary splendour, you can. Rooms, beds, showers are all first-class and the range of food and drink provided is generous. The host is warm, not in your face, but available for any help you need. I wish there were B&Bs like this in every town!

Room Tip: If you have heavy luggage, the ground floor rooms have French windows onto the front of the property...

Greeted warmly by Ed, who showed me to room 3 upstairs opposite the kitchen/dining room. There is good wi-fi and a flat-screen TV with Sky TV. Nice big bed and good-quality sheets. Good lighting in room. Good shower. Kitchen very well equipped for self-serve breakfast: eggs, cheese, good wholemeal, seedy bread, jams (some look homemade and were delicious), baked beans (including single-serving, microwavable containers), many cereals, fresh fruit, milk and soymilk, juice. Guests can bring takeaway food back to eat in the dining area or cook up something themselves. There are pots, pans and utensils, salt and pepper, cooking oil. I really liked being able to fend for myself. There is parking for a couple of cars. Good location just down from the Tourist Information Centre, opposite the dental building. Very good value. Ed was hospitable.
Bathroom could use a towel rod.
