“A great village pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

Whether it's their ever-changing menu, tapas night or clay oven pizza night, you can expect good service and great food. An absolute must is to try the breaded whitebait.
For a small pub the range of beer and cider is excellent with due emphasis on local products.
We stayed in one of the holiday let cottages, the Malt House, ideal stepping out place for the extensive walking trails that abound in the Wye Valley.

Excellent and strong locally made cider. Great locality, friendly. Walk over the bridge and through the small hamlet.

“Good Pub - Great Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

This pub is always warm and welcoming. The Beer is splendid, and the food is great. This is a country pub, used by locals and walkers, and people who like the area.

As an old waterman's pub is has a great deal of character, the seating is comfortable and the menu changes regularly. Noting the comments about the toilets, they are clean and functional, but ther gents is an old fashioned trough. There are far worse out there. There is a certain type of tourism in the Wye Valley, and this fits in to it well.

The children enjoy coming here, and the garden is splendid in summer, or warm autumn/spring days. The ouside Pizza oven operates on Thursday nights.

“Sad little place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

The website really makes it out a bit different. New owners? The visit to the 'acclaimed' Devil's Pulpit upstairs, bit of a letdown as they are using it for a storage area. There are fresh vegetables on a scrubby little table out by the men's room. One diner next to us said, 'This scampi is quite good.' Which is Brit-code for 'I have never tasted actual good food in my life.' Scampi? Just stop. The place needs an upgrade. I will say the beer was very good. We had a pork and stuffing bap. Baps just soft baps from the store; so sandwich kind of got into a mushed state. This was something I would have put together for a five year old. Ploughman's was very average. Service was good, but typical British failure to clear tables, so we stared at empty coffee cup and plate on another table for some time. You might go here for a packet of crisps and a pint. But other than that, don't bother, even though the food is cheap. Unless the pinnacle of your culinary existence is scampi.

“Coule be really good if only”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Not been here for years, place still looks like it did 20 years ago (sadly that include the rather disgusting gents). Staff were welcoming, love the fact they have dog treats on the bar.

Drink selection excellent but sadly it was let down by the food. Steak was perfect, spot on and good value BUT partners salmon sandwich was not do great - layers of think cheap catering marg totally spoilt it, and out chips tasted like cheap frozen ones, slightly over cooked.

So, if your the owner my advice is not to cut corners, its letting you down. Will give it another go in a few months and see if its improved.
