We decided to visit The St. Pierre Golf & Country Club for a special deal Dinner,B & B with a round of golf. The following day we were to join 42 other ladies from our golf club for our Lady Captain's special away day. The weather was glorious.
We were advised to use the Old Course as the Mathern wasn't up to the usual standard. We took their advice and proceeded to follow 16 men playing a charity event -
After 8 holes which took 3 hours we asked to go through (normal golf etiquette) and were told "no you can't but you can have a sit down at the half way house if you want" we were told this not only by a club member but a committee member of some standing - these local members were inhospitable, rude and unsportsmanlike. The marshal on the course told us who it was who was so unfriendly and that he had a handicap of 10 and that made it alright!! What a pity to spoil such a lovely away day as the course was in good condition but it took us 6 hours to play the full round of golf in very low spirits. The following day it took a little less time at 5 hours 40 minutes.
The Marriott Hotel was comfortable, staff polite & attentive but the drinks were prohibitively expensive. These so called famous society golf & country clubs normally have a good reputation but those days seem to be over for this one and we will not visit this place again. There are many more golf packages around at better clubs than this who don't find it necessary to treat other golfers in this way.
