Stayed here after getting long distance recommendations from online friends in the UK. Alan and the staff were very accommodating. Twice in our four nights we arrived for dinner only 15 minutes before closing, but were made to feel as if we were no bother at all. Alan assisted us in planning our itinerary and made sure we weren't too ambitious in our planning.
We booked the suite and it was cavernous! I was amazed to find such a large room available. Yes the hot water took time to arrive. And, yes the toilet had what I assume was a macerater under it. It was noisy. But, you flush the toilet and walk away and there was plenty of very hot water with no complaints. I am not sure what other reviewers were criticizing. The hotel is 150 years old. There will be quirks. My wife and I consider them character. Never were they an inconvenience.
Dunkeld is a gem. Parking was easy. The cathedral was stunning. The townsfolk were friendly. And, Dunkeld was incredibly convenient. It put us close to everything.
If you want character and a traditional feel the Atholl Arms is a great choice. If you want snob appeal and an upper crust feel then perhaps you should stay at the nearby Hilton. As for me and my wife, we will be returning to the Atholl Arms on our next trip.
