The bottom line is that Hilton need to spend some money on this property.

The positives are a wonderful relaxing riverside location, lovely short walk to pretty village of Dunkeld, with nice shops, galleries and cafes. The staff were friendly, many Scottish, our room 202 was clean, modern and had a nice view of the river. No shampoo provided in the bathroom, but the toiletries were very good, and we received a small complimentary tray of gorgeous strawberries, fudge and shortbread.

The pool was a touch cool for me, but still nice, and the sauna, steam room, gym, changing facilities clean and of a good standard. Did not require dinner, but buffet style breakfast was fine.

The negatives basically relate to the overall poor maintenance of the building, and this dragged the whole experience down a little. The exterior desperately needs painted, and there were prominent windows with rags as curtains, not guest bedrooms I hope. Indoors, the reception was a little basic, and the lift and corridor carpet on our floor was really filthy looking.

We paid £127.00 for the night, I enjoyed my stay, would return, and I believe that we received good value for money. However, with some investment, this hotel with its charming location, could easily move from good to great.

“A lovely friendly hotel”

Well after booking the hotel and reading some reviews I prepared myself for the worst.

The room was excellent value with new fixtures and fitting. The staff could not have been more friendly and made our 30th wedding anniversary a delight. This place is for chilling out. Fair enough the bar prices are high and the wine must contain a 5 carat diamond in each bottle. There is an easy way to avoid this - drink moderately, dont buy the wine (bring your own the rooms have glasses) and get a taxi into Dunkeld or God forbid make the effort and walk along the beautiful riverside path into the village. The evening meal was pleasant and the breakfast was excellent. The buffet actually consisted of freshly cooked food and if you arrived late in the morning the food was still eminently edible. Believe me I have stayed in more expensive hotels where the breakfast buffet food was, I am sure, made from shoe leather and slag.

“fantastic break”

Hilton Dunkeld House

Have just returned from a two night stay at the Hilton Dunkeld and have no complaints whatsoever ~ possibly due to us being on our honeymoon!

Joking aside, we found the Hotel to be absolutely fine, no evidence at all of sulky reception staff who were sucking up to Merc owners ~ we arrived in a mini! Perhaps people mistake quiet unassuming recetion staff as being sulky? Not everyone has a Graham Norton personality!

Food was absiolutely fantastic, although I do agree that the drinks are pricey! However, although someone has complained about the mile long drive, you can walk along the river bank to Dunkeld itself and eat in the village very reasonably! We even walked back!!

One of the previous contributors said don't book room 411 as the floor is squeaky ~ word of warning, don't book 401 as that is the room below!! Trust me I know.

We will definately be going back. There is so much to do in Perthshire.

“Fantastic Setting”

The Dunkeld House Hotel is a grand hotel, set in a fantastic Scottish back drop 2nd to none. The Food is and service in this hotel are some of the best I have experienced!!! The hotel inside could use a bit of TLC, i.e. worn carpets, the only other minor annoying factor is the mile long driveway & it's seemingly endless speed bumps!! The village is a great place, where you will be greated with a warm Scottish welcome everyday. The hotel also has a range of activities attached to it, that are great fun and good value! All round this was a fantastic hotel and setting, the only drawback is that there a few fittings needing a little bit of updating.
