“welcome break”

Hunters Quay Hotel

Apr 29, 2008

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay . Good food - well worth staying in for- and a reasonably priced wine cellar. We stayed in a Premier room overlooking the Clyde - very comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. It is a beautiful renovation of an old house which managed to retain original features such as fireplaces, ceilings and wooden doors beautifully carved. The service was not obtrusive , but it was effective . Christine and husband Graham are friendly and helpful. Of course the magnificent scenery , good walking and abundance of interesting gardens suited us down to the ground.
A highly rated holiday.

“Fabulous Food”

Hunters Quay Hotel

Mar 3, 2008

We live in the area but went recently for a family meal to this hotel and it was first class. They couldnt have been more helpful. The food was beautiful although more of vegetarian option might be better but the service was lovely the owners couldnt do anymore to make it a welcoming place to be. Would definalty go back.

Early january is a tricky time of year for travel in Scotland. I was planning a short break to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday and she didn't want to go too far from Glasgow. But I also wanted somewhere that would make a special experience for the occasion. I couldn't have been happier with the choice of Hunter's Quay. Graham and Christine, the owners, gave us the warmest welcome possible and made my mum - who's never been that comfortable staying in hotels - feel very relaxed and at ease.

The rooms were fantastic - lovely views over the firth, spacious, well appointed, all en suite.

My sister, who never travels anywhere without her retriever, was also very comfortable in Hunters Quay because Christine and Graham are "dog people" with a delightful Visla who acted as the canine host. (That said, non-doggy people would find the place great too. It was impeccably clean, and the dogs were always out of the way of the main public areas.)

The bar and dining room were warm and inviting. There's nothing to beat a nice malt by the fire before dinner on a cold winter evening. The food and service in the dining room were excellent. They clearly know and love food, yet nothing was ever too risky for my mother to try. Good ingredients, well prepared, but never too fancy.

This was a very successful spot for this occasion for all the reasons above, but in addition, we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area. I always had dunoon down as a slightly delapidated old seaside resort (I'd never been there!), but it a quite delightful little town with lovely gardens (Benmore – http://www.gardens-of-argyll.co.uk/gardens/benmore-botanic-garden.html), woodland walks and pretty places to explore in the Cowal peninsula.

If I lived in Glasgow, I'd be going to Hunter's Quay on a regular basis.

Stayed at The Hunter's Quay Hotel in early July 2007. The hotel has a nice location on the lochside, has great views, provides very good food and we were made to feel welcome. The upgrade to a superior room is worthwhile, providing spacious accomodation and unbroken views across the loch.

So in a nutshell, if you looking for an above average hotel then don't hesitate to stay at the Hunter's Quay Hotel.

Our trip was business combined with pleasure. Having listened to our request, the room was selected for us by Christine. it was quiet, clean and spacious - with an enormous bathroom! We stayed for almost a week. The view over the Cowal peninsula is majestic and mindblowing and we were treated to this panorama for all our dining experiences. The local staff were attentive, smiling and very proficient. Graham and Christine run a tight ship and their personal attention to detail is the key to their sucess. The food was of high quality, tastefully presented and cooked to perfection. You will NEVER have a lukewarm meal! Very nice toiletries in the bathroom and warm fluffy towels. It was an excellent choice of hotel and we shall return. The resident dog - Tassie - is a very well behaved animal with a taste for tablet - which she hoped to receive after dinner most nights! The furnishings and decor are beautiful and totally right for the building. The restoration is a true labour of love.
