My husband and I visited the Argyll Hotel for the weekend and a meal at Rio was included. Overall, it was great for an inclusive meal, although the food was slightly disappointing at points.
The starters were average - my smoked salmon and prawns were nice, but my husbands mussels were disappointing. The sauce was still bitter where the white wine hasn't been properly cooked.
On the main courses, my husband had steak Diane which he really enjoyed - the steak was huge, which he loved! My monkfish wrapped in Parma ham was quite dry, although the sauce with mussels and prawns was really nice. We both ordered mixed vegetables, and we got some nice roasted med veg.... Which had celery throughout which was off putting!
The desserts were quite poor. Graeme's cheesecake was again huge and covered in whipped cream, whereas my chocolate fudge cake was also a huge portion, slopped on the plate. It didn't look great, but actually tasted really nice... As most melted chocolate fudge cake does!
Our bill was only £5 for extras as it was included in our hotel stay, so for this value it really was excellent. Not the best food I have ever tasted, but I would come back if I got the same deal in the future.
