Stayed here on route to Bruge as reviews were mixed on trip advisor decided to give it a go. Big mistake!
The car park is at the back of the hotel is pitch dark with very dangerous drains on the path to the hotel. The place is just disgusting.I could not believe it when I saw the Room they expected us to sleep in dirty and smelly (as was the whole hotel) eg.Greasy hair stains on the wall behind the bed! They moved us to another room which was slightly better but if it were not so late we would have gone elsewhere Please do not stay here. I would not wish that experience on anyone

The Carlton Hotel in Folkestone fulfilled all the needs of our Group of 29 retired Ladies. The position is wonderful with lovely views. Our rooms were comfortable and the Staff so friendlyand helpful. The food was really superb plenty of choice and well cooked. The restaurant Staff deserve a special mention for service and good humour. We were vey pleased with the Evening entertainment with something for everyone.

No one complained about anything because ther wasn't anything to complain about.

The Hotel is old but is well decorated and furnished. The bathrooms varied a little but we were all satisfied.

Good hotel good situation good places to visit in Kent and plenty to do in Folkestone.

There is a good Christmas offer if any groups are looking for somewhere.

No, I am not related to anyone at the Carlton just speaking as I found it.

We went as part of a David Urquhart 5 day holiday. The room we had were both on the ground floor, which was ideal for my mother who has arthritis in her knees. The view looking over the channel was very good. The sheets, towels and basic cleanliness was good, as was the food. But you do get used the little extras that are standard in other hotels and B&B's like biscuits and toiletries and tissues.Sounds picky I know but they are usual elsewhere. Like other reviewers have said the hotel is in need of a serious revamp. New paint, carpet and furnishings would be good. But how they can afford to do so on what they charge? Also the entertainment is every bit as tired as the hotel.Especially the man doing the quiz who seemed as if he didn't want to be there and kept getting confused abot what number question he was on.If I shoud return to Folkestone it wont be at this hotel.

Rating is based on Value for Money for this standard of hotel. The other reviews are inaccurate as they do not take into account the price - £32 B & B!! The hotel is right on the sea front in the Leas area - so a central/convenient location. The room overlooked the sea with the white cliffs of Dover just visible to the East. The hotel looks fine from the outside and the inside for this level/budget. That is why the title of this review is "reality check". £32 included breakfast!! Having asked for just scrambled eggs for breakfast a complete full english was provided! No - it wasn't Ramsay but it was £32 and sufficient! Just like the bed didn't have Egyptian Cotton and a Masseur to ease me to sleep BUT it was £32!!! It was clean and tidy but not the Ritz Carlton. What do you expect! I am amazed at some of these reviews. This hotel is really OK for the price. Some friends stayed in the Grand up the road for £175 and it really wasn't worth the extra £140 for a one night stay after a party! No I wouldn't recommend this for a family or a longer stay than a couple of nights but for a bed and a short stay it really is fine.

My husband and I travelled with the Coach Holiday ,Com. Monday to Friday stay. We had a twin room on the ground floor. Clean Comfy beds. 'en suite clean and piping hot water throughout our stay. We requested ,and received clean towels every day. The staff were very polite and nothing too much trouble. We enjoyed every meal we had. Overall the hotel is tired and needs re-decorating, but we had good value for the price we paid. Can recommend the Coach Holiday ,Com. Super trips to Canterbury, and Brugge (via ferry) Impressed with Folkestone, a clean and pleasant town. P.S. If you want to see a really bad hotel visit the Grand at Exmouth. owned by Shearings. Overpriced, disgusting venue !
