I have been coming to this restaurant for many many years and it has always been my favourite place to go. This time, it was Mothering Sunday and we had booked a table for 8. We were only given the mothers day menu, no childrens menu even though we had a 2 and 8 year old with us.
We were seated in the back room, which I happen to dislike anyway, it looked as though they had squeezed a few more tables in and one of the benches normally against a wall was on display and quite unsightly. We were asked to sit down at a table that was not set, ( others were). They then had to set the table around us, which was difficult as they couldn't get round the table and had to continually stretch across. They didn't set it completely as they didn't have enough cutlery! When the starters came we still didn't all have cutlery. When the wine came, there was no offer to taste it, just to pour it into non existent glasses! and the water was served in half pint Yorkshire beer glasses.
The food itself was as lovely as ever, no faults at all. It was the service that was just a nightmare quite frankly throughout the meal the waitresses could not serve us properly and tried to pass hot and awkward plates across the table. We then had to clear away between courses. I can understand the owners wanting to serve as many people as possible, but not to the detriment of the clients. It was such a bad experience that I doubt I will go again.
