Stayed at this hotel on a two night business trip while in Huddersfield. Firstly it’s not a 4* hotel by any stretch of the imagination. Yes it has a pool and fitness facilities but that’s about it. Reception was fine and welcoming. The hotels décor is fixed in the 80’s. The rooms are very tired and devoid of amenities. There’s no in-room fridge, safe, no more than two electrical points (one of which is needed for internet access), no a/c, no heating when I went (end of September). The rooms are very tired and urgently need updating and fitting out. The bed was comfortable but the pillows are thin. In winter I imagine the rooms to be hot when the heating’s working, and even hotter in summer.
The bathroom was fine, but both the bath and sink were cracked, but the bathroom was clean and functional. Internet access is available, but at extortionate rates (£15 per day) add to that the very slow access and that on one morning I could not log on as there were too many users online! There is no 3 mobile broadband signal in or near the hotel.
Being about 10 minutes from Huddersfield town centre the only option for food is the restaurant unless you want to drive. Dinner on the first night was very average. I was offered bread (sliced bread, not rolls) which was delivered cold. I had a duck pate starter and sirloin steak main, the pate was bland and tasteless but the steak was fine – then again how can you ruin steak! Service was ok, some staff needed extra training but the manager was always ready to help. Breakfast was a greasy buffet affair. On the second night I was I went down to the 50+ capacity restaurant at 7:30 , as with the restaurant bursting fro the 20 diners in there was told I’d have to wait for a table. 20 minutes later I was offered one, but had decided to eat in the bar. I was astounded by the situation. The bar food is a lot more standard and was good.
If you need to book a taxi into town be prepared to wait 20 minutes for one to arrive at the hotel. I would equate the Cedar Court to a Travelodge, or old Premier Inn in terms of décor and in room facilities, however they are charging 4* prices which is a rip off.
Would I stay here again? Sadly in Huddersfield there’s hardly any decent choice.
