“Quality.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

Nicely refurbished but still a characterful local pub, treated ourselves to a post walk pint, Sunday lunch and sunset over scapegoat hill. Mountainous piles of gorgeous beef, a properly done Yorkshire pud, good quality beer and friendly staff - just nice to see there are people prepared to do the basics really well, more than worth a visit and a bit of praise.

Hi there and thanks for your very kind review. The Bulls Head is an ideal location for a walk in the countryside followed by a lovely lunch and we are so pleased you enjoyed your visit. Our roast beef and homemade yorkies are very popular, but we also have lighter options and sandwiches for walkers. As you say we also benefit from magnificent views across the valley to enjoy as well. It always nice to be compimented on the friendliness of our staff and they will be so happy to read your write up. We hope to see you again soon!

“Best its ever been!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013 via mobile

Tried the Bulls Head as I heard its been refurbished recently and I heard good reports. I have to say the food was amazing and very reasonable. It was also full on a Wednesday evening we had to wait a little while for a table which wasn't a problem, we were made to feel very welcome enjoyed a drink at the bar until our table became free. We also took our children and there was plenty of choice on the menu, local produce and they were very flexible with our order! Service was excellent, we were made to feel special. I felt like we got star treatment and food with a local atmosphere and reasonable prices!! Definitely be going again!

Hi Rachel, and thanks for your fabulous write up of The Bulls Head. It's great to hear that you thought the service was excellent, and the food was amazing and very reasonable. It really does make our day when we get reviews like yours as we all work so hard to provide a great pub for our guests. As you say, we are always flexible with what our customers want, and as we cook everything fresh it's no trouble for us. Once again, thanks for taking the time to recommend our business and we'll no doubt see you again in the near future!

“Enjoyed our meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

Went with friends for a 'quick' meal. One friend chose the gammon - which was declared 'very nice.' There were two downsides, the first was that the salad comes with a dressing on it and my friend does not like anything on salads - why must we have to remember when ordering in restaurants to ask if there is a salad with the dish and if it has a dressing?
My mother ordered the meat & potato pie - which she declared to be delicious although she wasn't able to eat much -however whilst served with pastry, this was a dish of components, not a pie.
I had the pasta & roasted veg, absolutely delicious.
The second downside? As a non meat eater I am used to having a limited choice in restaurants, but my friend loves meat, but being a non drinker found too many dishes contained alcohol.
Having said all this, did we enjoy the meal? Yes! Was the service good? Yes! Would we return? Definately!
The refurbishment and change of management has certainly been for the better, as our last visit was not a good experience.

Hi there and thanks for your very kind review of our pub. It lovely to hear that you enjoyed your meal and will visit us again. It's always nice when people compliment us on our service, as we always provide a warm welcome for our guests. Some of our dishes do contain small amounts of alcohol but we have plenty of choice for those that abstain. We do serve a dressing with our salad but of course it's equally no trouble to hold the dressing if required. Thanks once again for taking the time to let us know your thoughts and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

“lovely meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

we went to the Bulls Head on Saturday 25 May for my birthday. When we got there we were asked if we wanted a drink at the bar or at our table, as the bar was quite busy and noisy we decided to have a drink at our table in the restaurant. We were sat in front of the window, the only downside was the dead flowers on the table.

We ordered our food and a carafe of wine, which is good if there is only one of you drinking and works out cheaper than a couple of glasses and not as much as a bottle.

We both had the salt and pepper calamari which was lovely. My husband had steak and said it was as good as he had anywhere. I had the baked cod, on mash with wilted spinach and shallot sauce, the fish was cooked to perfection.

As we were both quite full we decided to share at cheese and biscuits, unfortunately , they had run out of cheese biscuits and offered a baguette instead, we both felt this would be rather filling and opted for the hazelnut and raspberry meringue which was very nice.

Overall, a lovely meal and a nice way to celebrate a special occasion. We hope to go back very soon.

Hi there and thanks for your very nice review on TripAdvisor. It's good to hear you had a lovely meal and really enjoyed your calamari. steak and cod. We do change our fresh flowers every week, and apologise if the ones at your table were a bit past their best, it was probably the day before the weekly change. Cheese and biscuits are proving very popular and we will endevour to buy more biscuits for the cheese, again aplogies for this small niggle. It's good of you to mention these two things as it affords us the opportunity to continually improve our offer. We appreciate your honest comments and hope to see you again very soon.
