“What a fantastic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

Before retiring I worked for an international manufacturing company, and stayed in first class hotels all over the world. I have to say that none of these came anywhere near the high quality standard of service and food that can be found at Alcombe House hotel.

Room Tip: Fist floor rooms are easier to get to after the evening meal !

This was our first visit to Alcombe House Hotel and I'm sure it won't be our last! Just back from a five-night stay feeling very relaxed and refreshed - largely thanks to Val and Roger's genuine care and concern that you have a great time whilst staying with them. The hotel is lovely, the rooms great (with a welcoming lounge to relax in), food wonderful and varied and nothing is too much trouble for Val and Roger. We really appreciated their friendliness and they made our visit to this part of the country a wonderful one. Thank you Val and Roger!

Alcombe House is an excellent place to stay & thoroughly deserves its AA 4* award. Val & Roger are extremely good hosts, nothing is too much trouble. Cleanliness is of the highest standard & the food delicious with very varied breakfast & dinner menus. We obviously will be returning.

Room Tip: Room 1 is very spacious & nice views. We also ask for this one

Alcombe House is a fine, period, intimate hotel. Whether a first time or regular visitor Roger and Val will extend a warm welcome and endeavour to make your stay comfortable and memorable. As visitors and the AA attest, Val and Roger provide high standard accommodation. Their customer care is second to none. Breakfast is wholesome and hearty, enough to sustain you through the day - very tasty. Dinner is even better. Val’s culinary skills will not disappoint. Rooms are comfortable, clean and fresh.
It pains us to have to mention the recent negative review. It is wholly erroneous and suspect. Any discerning reader will see through it. Enough said.
We have returned year after year, as do many, and always enjoy a rewarding stay. We unreservedly recommend Alcombe House.

If you are thinking of staying at Alcombe House, don't be put off by spiteful and completely inaccurate reviews! We have stayed there on many occasions over the past four years, including group stays with family. The standard of cleanliness is second to none; bed and table linen, bathrooms, glass and silverware and furniture are always spotless. In addition, public rooms and bedrooms are adorned with fresh flowers winter and summer, and the welcoming atmosphere is enhanced by attractive bowls of sweets and selections of glossy magazines placed around the hotel. All-round attention to detail is admirable; prompt service and a friendly word from the proprietors are always to hand.
Although the hotel is situated near a main road, bedrooms are well above the road and we have never been disturbed by traffic, even when sleeping on that side. Neither have we ever been aware of fellow guests at night.
Last but not least, all meals are fresh, well-cooked and imaginative. Dinner is a real treat and as there is a new menu every day, you will anticipate each evening meal with pleasure and expectation. We have never met any fellow guest who is less than delighted with their stay.
Robert and Heather, Swindon

Room Tip: All have period character and charm, but Rooms 2 and 4 are extra special.

My wife and I booked at Alcombe House Hotel as previous reviews were so good. Indeed the reviews do not do it justice. The place is superb and Roger and Val were great hosts. Our bedroom was immaculate. We can both add our recommendation to the dinners. Absolutely gourmet standard. Nothing too much trouble. We asked for non-alcoholic lager the first night and Roger got in a supply after that. Breakfast sets you up for the day. Best ever! In our opinion this should be ranked at Number 1. Mind you as we plan on going back, we wouldn't want it to become too popular!

Room Tip: We were in a room at the back overlooking Exmoor. Couldn't get better than that.
