We have just returned from four days at Periton Park Court, where we stayed in a self-catering unit and did some trail rides out onto Exmoor, and to Selworthy Beacon, etc.
The welcome was warm...the proprietors also run the stables and organize the rides out. They are a very pleasant family.
The accommodation was clean, comfortable and spacious. Other than the fact that the bathroom towels were a little musty when we first arrived, we had no complaints about the housekeeping. The kitchen was well equipped, with a microwave and all other necessary conveniences. The rooms themselves are on the ground floor of the main house, and although there is some noise from the family living above, it is not unacceptable.
The swimming pool was right outside our door and was one of the loveliest locations I have seen...it was sparkling and refreshing to have a swim after riding.
The entire property is beautifully kept and the proprietors take obvious pride in their garden and paddocks. They take wonderful care of some very happy horses. We found the riding was pleasant since the horses were calm and the equipment was all in good order. They had 'loaner' helmets.
If there are non-riders in your party, there is no obligation to participate in the horse rides. There is a BBQ by the swimming pool, and Minehead itself is only a couple of miles away. There is some lovely trail walking just outside the back gate, which borders on Exmoor National Park. All in all, a very peaceful stay.
