“Nice hotel, shame about the staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

I booked a relatively expensive hotel looking for a good quality treat for my elderly Mum overnight. I am used to hotels for business and for occasional treats and thought this looked promising. To ensure that there was disabled facilities and that it would be suitable, I rang ahead and paid above the internet price after some negotiation to get it near what was apparently on offer. On arrival, there were not sufficient disabled parking places and no welcome, no information on say where to get breakfast, the pool, how the lift worked - the basics. We got no help with bags (which you need when dealing with a wobbly relative, two bags and two lift doors that have to be propped open at the same time), Mum was completely ignored throughout. The next morning at breakfast was frosty. We were ignored on arrival and eventually sat at a table. The waiter told my 89 year old mother to move, at which point I intervened and suggested he could perhaps allow her to have her breakfast there since the restaurant was half empty and no obvious need to disturb her. I mentioned with some sadness as we checked out that a little warmth would have helped and was melt with a clear outline on how they follow procedure. Not a place to revisit. Ever.

Sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us, we know that we are far from perfect, I was away at the time but Debbie assures me that assistance was offered with bags and indeed Roger our relief manager held the lift doors open for you, as for car parking we have 3 disabled bays unfortunately they must have been taken so you must have been unlucky I think this and a stressful journey tainted your opinion of us.
We are looking into breakfast seating at the moment as guest's who stay for a while like their own table. We trust you will stay again and get a true reflection of our hospitality

We stayed for a week arriving on the 28th July. This was our third visit since Stuart & Chris took over and I must say you can see and feel the difference they have made.
The whole atmosphere of the hotel has changed and it feels much more welcoming and friendly probably due to the hands on approach to the business from both owners.
We have never had any complaint about the food but this time it was even better than previously and we have still never managed to reach the desserts even though they look absolutely delicious.
The weather this time played its part and we spent many happy hours on the terrace with our books & lunch and drinks. Absolutely bliss.
There were about four families there with young children who were all mixing in well and a delight to see enjoying the hotel facilities including the dining room.
New lounge furniture, new carpets and many rooms having new beds make it very hard to fault any part of the hotel especially coupled with the service from the staff who cannot be faulted.
I should not really recommend this hotel too much as it will get fully booked but as we are aready booked in for our next visit I strongly recommend anyone to give it a go. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Always consider upgrading your room if possible.

Just returned from a 5 night stay at the northfield hotel. When arriving at hotel on Monday the staff were friendly and welcoming. Afternoon tea is an added bonus. Evening dinner and breakfasts are cooked to a high standard and plenty of choice. Owners also are happy in making additions for you if you fancy something different. Swimming pool, gym and Jacuzzi are great. Before arriving at this hotel I read reviews that it's not a good hotel for young adults we totally disagree. We will definitely be going back again and want to thank stewart and Chris for a fab holiday. Your doing a grand job

Room Tip: Sea view and room 24 is amazing

A birthday treat for my husband and a celebration with his parents who live nearby.
I contacted the hotel in advance to request a larger table and reservation and the service I received was excellent a theme that continued for the weekend. A huge plus for us is that dogs are allowed, they have towels, dog biscuits and they are made welcome.
The hotel pool was super, very welcome on a warm day. Lovely room with a view over the bay, local tea and coffee (Miles) and comlimentary water - very comfortable.
Evening meal was super, plenty of choice, well presented and helpful staff. Lounge an bar are very comfortable. Its a hotel with charactor and charm and has a personality, very suitable if you enjoy some of the tradition that many hotels have lost. Not a touch of blandness in sight....

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

We found the Northfield to be a wonderful find just a short walk from the town, beach and the moors. The Gardens are beautiful and perfect for relaxing on a lazy sunny day. The staff were charming and friendly and the accommodation very comfortable and we had a stunning view of the sea. I would certainly recommend the Northfield to anyone who is looking for traditional hospitality offering good old fashioned service in a relaxing and friendly environment. We were even lucky enough to meet the hotel ambassadors, Harvey and Max, the owners' two golden retrievers! I will also find time to have a dip in the pool next time we visit! Thank you to everyone who made our stay a pleasure. Mike and Louise Rothchild.
