“Excellent Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

Returned a few days ago from a stay in The Old Ship Aground which I would highly recommend to anyone wishing to stay in Minehead. The rates charged were way below any other B&B, hotel or inn in the area, therefore I didn't have high expectations. However, I was more than nicely surprised when shown to my room. The room was spacious, very comfortable and contained all the essentials. I was dazzled by the crisp, spotlessly clean, white bedlinen and towels. The food was very good, both dinner and breakfast. The fact that the restaurant was virtually full with locals on a week day evening speaks for itself! The staff were very friendly and obliging, nothing too much trouble. Although the location was immaterial to me, it was in fact very convenient in every respect.

Room Tip: I was in room 3 so didn't have a sea view.

Returned yesterday from 2 nights at the Old Ship Aground! We were there with family and friends and had a great stay. We had a very friendly welcome from the staff and the locals too which was nice. Our rooms were great! Room 8 and 9 are huge with lovely harbour views. Massive beds with crisp white linen and big fluffy towels. The food was also brilliant. Think it's the best presented breakfast I've ever had. We really enjoyed our stay and had lots of fun. Thanks to all the staff for making our stay so good!

Recently refurbished, The Old Ship Aground is a great place for a break. The rooms are large and comfortable, the food and drink are good, and the hospitality by the owners and staff cannot be beat. Location is great at the Quay end of Minehead, within easy reach of the City Centre, Quantock Hills, Exmoor and Devon.

Room Tip: We stayed in 8, which along with 9, has a great view of the Harbour with ceiling to floor windows.

Just returned from the 3 night break offer and what good value it was. We were upgraded to room 9 overlooking the harbour and nothing was too much trouble. Being a veggie, my meals were cooked to order and my husband said the quality of the meat was better than Waitrose, very attentive service and thoroughly recommend a stay, in such friendly surroundings.

Room Tip: very good web site to help you choose.

My husband and I met 2 friends at the Old Ship Aground after spotting it on the internet. We only had 1 night away, but felt so relaxed and friendly in the pub, that we didn't leave it, we ate, drank, slept and enjoyed. A lovely friendly welcome was made and all the staff helped to make our short break away very enjoyable. Keep up the good work, We are sure that you will do well. Lovely food and very clean comfortable rooms at an affordable price. We will return.

Was a little while ago and I understand its changed hands since...but from what I heard its even better.

Great food, great atmosphere..and a little unexpected... its a nice walk from the West Somerset railway preserved line.. So let the train take the strain... - join it at Bishops Lydeard, travel by Steam to Minehead and then have a glorious pub lunch and a beer!

Room Tip: I didnt stay... so this is the Pub only...

Thanks for your comments, we opened last September after a full refurbishment but have made sure that pub retains its natural charm and historic tradition as a harbourside pub. If youre in Minehead again pop in and see what we've done.

We decided on a last minute break to explore this area and found this pub/hotel. It was bought in 2013 and the team spent 4 months doing it up - not quite finished but our room was spacious and comfortable (beds etc all new). The attention was first class but not intrusive and evening meals were good. We were made very welcome and owners were interested in the things we were doing in the daytime. For me I would have enjoyed fruit or/and maybe yoghurt at breakfast but my husband enjoyed his full English each morning! Thank you Julian, Rachel, James, Janina and team.
