“Excellent place to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

We visited West Somerset Railway why we were on a short break at Minehead. It has been greatly updated and has a cafe there where you can sit outside and watch the trains on the new turntable which takes about half an hour for the engineers to do this manually and was very interesting to see. The cost of a return ticket for a ride on the steam train has risen however from £11.00 (which we paid in 2011) to £17.50 but if you just want to look around then it's great.

Thank you for your feedback on ticket prices. We just wanted to clarify the pricing.

The price of a rover ticket/full length of the line ticket is £17.00 for adults, £15.40 for seniors and £8.50 for children. You can save 10% by buying these tickets in advance online/by phone.

In 2011 the adult ticket cost £15.60.

“Excellent day out.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

We got a bus from Taunton right into the railway station at Bishops Lydeard, just in time to get our tickets and board the steam train for Minehead. We got off at Dunster & walked up to Dunster Castle (along the river bank & up a steep hill). Then later walked down & back on to a different steam train to Minehead. After a quick look at Minehead we returned on another different steam train back to Bishops Lydeard (over 1hr 20mins journey on the return trip) and only 12 mins wait for a bus back to Taunton.
An all day rover ticket was only £17 and was very good value.

“Nice trip out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

This railway has very clean coaches, friendly staff and lovely scenery. The only drawback for us were the extremely loud real ale drinkers who were attending the beer festival- perhaps if we had sunk 10 pints ourselves, we wouldn't have noticed!

“Lovely old railway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

We boarded the steam train at Minehead, which was bustling and had a great atmosphere. The staff on the railway we found to be friendly and helpful and seem to undertake take their role very conscientiously. The stations we visited ( we went as far as Watchet ), appear to be well maintained and the trains are quite pristine and a joy to behold, All in all a great experience and step back in time. The scenery along the way is lovely, enhanced by the noises and sensation of steam. Our only regret is that we did not allow more time and travel the whole of the line, taking in the stops along the way. However, if time is limited, the return trip to Watchet is fine and quite reasonable in price. This is a " must visit " attraction if in the area. The best steam railway we have been on.

“Great Day on the Trains”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

My wife and I enjoyed seeing the fantastic countryside at a leisurely pace from the comfort of a nicely restored coach. The availability of refreshments and toilets was a bonus. We also loved the pristine stations with their neat paintwork and lovely flowers, and nicely uniformed friendly staff. Keep up this fantastic facility - we hope to return.
