“A shopping treat.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

My wife and I often go to Newbury as it's not so far down the A34 from Abingdon. It's a good shopping destination now they have opened a new shopping precinct which includes a John Lewis At Home Store.
When we go we always have lunch out and more often than not go to the Ask Italian restaurant. It has recently been refurbished and is one of the better of the Ask chain with very good service and food. The rear of the restaurant overlooks the river Kenneth and has glass doors that open so if visiting in the summer months try and get a table at the rear.
The menu is very good which includes food for small people. Our little grandson just loved the garlic bread.
So if your up for Italian then give it a go we have never been disappointed in this Ask restaurant.

“Good food, friendly service let down by a very poor cappuccino.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013 via mobile

We had not visited for a while and were impressed by the new layout. We visited at lunchtime today and although they had several parties in, the service and food were good. The only let down was the exceptionally poor cappuccinos. For an Italian restaurant this is not on.

“Very good food and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

Hadn't been to an Ask Italian restaurant for a while so wasn't sure what to expect. Prices were a little on the high side but as you can use Tesco Clubcard vouchers against the food, the prices became less of an issue. Food was very good indeed for a "chain" italian restaurant and the service was very good too. Restaurant was clean and modern. Will visit an Ask again if the opportunity arises.

“Disappointing food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

Decided to try Ask for dinner after we had had a really tasty lunch there a while ago but there must be a new chef or he is on a different shift as the food last night was a massive disappointment. We ordered the NEW cheese& chilli dough balls only to be told they had ran out...a warning sign right there! and the mushrooms which were supposed to have garlic butter on them - had such a small brushing on them that you wouldn't have known it was there. The mains of pizza (ordered with chilli) but delivered without and the pasta with courgettes took us further downhill. The portion of pasta was about 3 times what it should have been, so much so the waitress actually commented what a massive portion I had been given as it spilled out over the bowl. There was no sauce, or oil or anything on the pasta and it hadn't been cooked with enough salt and all good cooks know that pasta needs salt to give it flavour. The amount of vegetable was a third less than it needed to be due to the mound of tasteless pasta so the meal was spent digging around trying to find something of taste! It was like a child had attempted to make it! Both varieties of the white wines by glass were tasteless which I never understand of big chains as their buyers should just choose decent wine as theyll always make their money on it due to the volumes they buy....anyway overall a very disappointing meal out unfortunately.
