“It should be a 5 star hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2011

At the beginning of August Me and my Husband stayed in this hotel for a 2 night stay to meet up with some old friends of ours.

It was a very clean and tidy place. The cleaners who worked there did a very good job everywhere was cleaned exceptionally well.

There was lots of varieties of food to eat which was good.
The bedrooms were very clean and cosy too.

We are defiantly coming back next year when we stay. We would recommend this hotel to anybody.

we arrived at this bed and breakfast i made the mistake of ringing the door bell twice and was severely repremanded by the boss. we stayed in the most expensive roomwhich although was adequate did not live up to the photo from the internet. There was a stained duvet cover on the main bed and valance, which obviously had not been changed since the last occupant thestaff in the dining room were very friendlyand attentive so they lived up to expectations the owner did not, welcome , and did you have a pleasant journey would have helped.. will i be back , definitley not...

Myself and my husband love Scarborough, its a lovely place to go away for just a few days and a night.

We always stay in a particular 4 star hotel that costs in excess of £150 per night.

All I can say is I will NEVER go back again .

The Selomar went above and beyond our expectations, I felt transported back to a time when customer service and old fashioned values were the most important things.

Our room (room6) was lovely, the bathroom wouldnt have looked out of place in any 4-5 star hotel it was modern with lovely touches, the bedlinen looked and felt new the throw and cushions just added to a very lovely decor throughout.

The Breakfast, was very very tasty and the serivce staff were friendly and professional and presented themselves as great ambassadors for the business.

The owners son was on the bar in the evening, and he made us feel incredibly welcome and created an atmosphere that allowed all guests to hold a very pleasant conversation.

It was truly the tonic myself and my husband needed, wonderful wonderful stay. THANK YOU.

Room Tip: Room 6 has a partial sea view.. but its enough!

Stayed here for a weekend and have to agree with reviews that have gone before, the hosts are very pleasant and incredibly helpful, and the hotel is in a fantastic position with both North and South Bays within short walking distance, making it possible to do everything you can in Scarborough using the hotel as a great base.

The views also are splendid, however ours were sadly spoilt by quite a lot of seagull excrement over the windows, which wasn't very pleasant to look at - I would recommend to the owners that they clean them fairly regularly - pesky seagulls!

Parking outside the hotel does seem to get very busy too, so I would definitely suggest you ask for a space to be reserved if possible if you're planning on arriving too late.

The hotel can get also very noisy in the mornings too with doors semeing to bang very loudly, so I wouldn't recommend you try to have a lie-in as it won't happen. There is also a very short window for breakfast (830 - 930am) which is slightly irritating if you are hoping to catch up on some sleep. And the breakfast is delicious and served by two very helpful, kind waitresses, so you do feel obliged to get up for it. But it would maybe be nicer if Selomar offered two shifts for breakfast - say 8-9 for the early birds and then maybe 10-11 for the lazier ones of us?

If you do plan to stay, I would also suggest you make a point of asking for one of the generous front-facing Bay Window rooms as shown on the website, that is what I had been hoping for, but we ended up put in a room higher up the hotel which was a lot less glamorous (a little crampt, smaller windows, many stairs to walk up), but still pleasant enough, but not as beautiful as the Bay Window rooms appear to look.

Overall, it was a nice stay though. but just a bit short of what we had hoped for.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for one of the front-facing Bay Window rooms if possible

Myself, my husband and our 4 and 1 year old have jsut got back from staying at the Selomar. I always think with B&B/guest house type places everything depends on the people running it and all I can say is Ken and Irene have it spot on. We were made to feel so welcome from the moment we arrived, the room was lovely, a really nice size and looked straight out onto Scarboroughs North Bay, I've stayed all over the world and never had a view like that.

Breakfast was great, plentiful and really nice, the staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble.

I felt £80 for the family room per night inc breakfast was fantastic value and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place and we hope to be back very soon!
