A great theatre in a small town to rival any City venue. This is where we travel for our entertainment on a regular basis. To day we have watched the premier of a play prior to its London run. '' The Thrill Of Love '' is a reworking of the Ruth Ellis story ,an excellent cast gave a fantastic production of what at times is a harrowing but sensitive story based on fact. the audience this afternoon was sparse but we were treated to a performance worthy of larger crowds.

London west end quality at Scarborough prices! Premiers for Alan Ayckbourn.

I have been going every time I visit Scarborough and have enjoyed every play I've seen.

Looks a bit run down from the outside but the inside is surprisingly plush and a real jewell of a place. Intimate and qwirkey

“Scarborough's standout”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

I have visited the Stephen Joseph Theatre many times over the past few years, I have always had a great experience when visiting. The productions I have seen have always been to a very high standard and make good use of 'the round' layout. The general ambiance is quite laid-back and unpretentious. The seperate cinema is quite small and dated, and the films always seem to be a few months behind from a release date point of view, but I still think it's great - low key, relaxed and ice cream on sale down the front. A genuinely nice place to visit in Scarborough.
