“So calm and relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2012

Recently had the most wonderful stay at Crown House. We were visiting Scarborough
as my daughter was attending an interview at the local university. We arrived on a cold,
wet evening to the most lovely welcome from Barbara. Our room was really fantastic.
Huge bed and excellent under floor heating in the bathroom. The best tea and coffee
tray I have ever sampled in any hotel or guest house. Homemade gorgeous flapjacks,
fresh milk (yes fresh!!!) in a chiller and real coffee with our very own coffee pot.
Lots of magazines and dvds. This is heaven!!! Breakfast was superb. Homemade granola, bread and fantastic juice. My daughter struggles to eat breakfast and especially being a little nervous I thought would not touch a thing. Totally wrong - ate the lot with enthusiasm.
The house is really, really beautiful, the room perfect - we were on such a short visit but will
definitely return for a more leisurely stay. Thank you again Barbara for making our stay so very comfortable and incredibly calm and relaxing. ps I have never put a review on here before - so this is a real first!!!!

Room Tip: Both beautiful. No need to choose.

We knew we’d found a perfect place to stay as soon as Barbara welcomed us into her beautiful home. The accommodation is superb, but although everything is furnished to a very high standard, she has cleverly managed to create a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.

And the breakfasts! We stayed 3 nights and every morning we ate far more than we intended to – who could resist the home made breads, freshly squeezed juices, fruits, and perfectly cooked meals. Nothing was too much trouble.

The location is excellent, lovely walks along the esplanade into town where there is something to please everyone, and a very good restaurant close by. We will be back!

We have stayed in some very nice B&Bs and some top drawer hotels But the Crown House is the best accommodation yet. From the beautiful room , comfy bed , the fantastic welcome , the breakfasts ,
In short " everything "
This lady could teach the art of the Hotelier .
Would have no hesitation in recommending The Crown House to anybody.
Thank you Barbara

Look no further than Crown House @ No 20 if you are needing somewhere to stay in Scarborough. This really is a gem - we stayed for two nights in the Cream Room which, like the rest of the house, is absolutely beautiful, and where all those luxurious little extras that make somewhere feel 'extra special' have been thought of. Barbara is a wonderful host, who immediately makes you feel very welcome in her beautiful home. She's a great cook too - the breakfasts are amazing! So if you are after a bit of luxury in a wonderful location convenient for all the grandeur that Scarborough has to offer Crown House @ No 20 is the place.

Room Tip: The Cream Room is huge and very luxuriously appointed, lovely bathroom too.

Barbara runs a very stylish and friendly B&B in her beautiful-restored house. Rooms are large, spotless and with loads of books and DVDs for rainy days. The bathroom (pink room) has a great shower and a heated mirror to avoid steaming up.

Very comfortable bed, with luxurious cotton sheets.

The breakfast is one of the best, if not the best, we've tasted. As well as the yummy home-made marmalades, mueslis, granola, etc, we could try a changing selection of fresh fruit, yoghurt, plus the familiar bacon, sausages, tomatoes, kippers etc.

But, although these items were familiar, their taste wasn't. The sausages and bacon oozed flavour; the kippers were succulent; the eggs were definitely not from a supermarket!

Barbara's friendliness even extended to offering us a lift when we simply enquired about local buses. I've not come across such generosity and amiability in a UK B&B before, and it was only afterwards I heard they had won an award for Friendly service from Sawdays!

What a great place. If only more places could be like this!

Room Tip: One room has shower; the other a bath.

Breakfasts to die for - fresh, locally sourced and home-made food. We had to get the recipe for the wonderful granola. I asked if the rather bland plums we had bought could be cooked. Our host not only cooked them, she also stoned them and they tasted wonderful with the home-made yoghurt.
We had a beautiful, spacious room and although the house was on a fairly main road, we had no problem with noise - in fact, it was very quiet. It was easy to find and within walking distance of the centre. Our hosts were welcoming, helpful and great cooks. What more could you ask for? A truly enjoyable stay.

A couple of years ago my husband and I had stayed at the original Crown House in Scarborough. It was excellent and as we were returning to the area we thought we would stay here again.
When I contacted Barbara about booking I was shocked to find they had moved and opened the new Crown House @ No 20, I was concerned that the new house could not possibly be as good as the old Crown House. However, I was wrong, the house was excellent, walking distance to the town and the beach through the cliff top gardens.
We stayed in the large cream room, which was beautiful, very well furnished with everything we needed and a lovely modern bathroom.
The breakfasts were as good as ever and Barbara could not do enough for us. She cooked dinner for us one day and her sister cooked for us another. Both dinners were excellent.
I would recommend this B&B to anybody and we will definitely be returning.
