“reception staff fantastic”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2010

we have just come back from a midweek stay, the reception staff were fantastic and always happy to help, the room was more than adequate and thats where the pluses end. The food was poor and despite being told that there was a childrens menu the truth was slightly different there is no menu as such a choice between chicken nuggets or fish fingers was the choice every single day. the bar is expensive and resembles something from a old people home and the non english restaurant staff where rude and to the point. a very over priced hotel saved slightly by maria and the team on reception who frankly deserve a better job

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2010

Had a great weekend as our annual reunion headed North. Staff at the Red Lea were very attentive, friendly and although booked through the Isle of Wight Tours it made for an easier deal - hotel booked and paid for before we turned up. The IOW Rep, Shirley, was very attentive and as such ensured that eveerything ran well.

My room was spotless and attended to when away from the hotel and a comfortable bed allowed a decent nights sleep. Shower was good and hot and food in the restaurant was very good. Parking is on street but free and in a safe area so no concerns.

My only ONE concern was the price of drinks at the bar - £4 for Newcastle Brown and £4.20 for a pint of bottled cider was VERY steep. If this could be dropped it would make for a cheaper time. Other than that no complaints.

I'd be more than happy to go back there with family or another circle of friends.

We recently stayed with our 11 month twins and were extremely impressed with how helpful and caring all the staff in the hotel were. Our room was lovely with a sea view and the travel cots provided were in very good condition and obviously comfortable as babies slept great in them!!! High chairs were provided in the dining room at our table and were there whenever we needed them!!
Parking was very easy with lots of spaces right at the door and the swimming pool has a great shallow end for small people!!! All the guests during our stay were very friendly too!! Great time had by all would definatley recommend!!

Arrived and checked with the receptionist that our room was ready and it was the one that I had booked over the phone, large with a sea view room. Very outdated style which was not as per the website and THE MOST uncomfortable smallest double bed we have ever stayed in - no sleep was had by either of us. Breakfast was made for people with false teeth and was very poor quality. The only good thing was the weather on the day we stayed it was gorg which meant we did not have to stay in the room for long. When checking out we were not asked whether we enjoyed our stay although I did make a point that the bed was most uncomfortable and the receptionist proceeded to say nothing. This sealed their fate and we will not be recommending this hotel to anyone.

We have recently returned from a T&T break at this hotel. There were 48 of us and not one complaint. It was wonderful. Staff friendly and helpful food really good and it was so cosy and warm. A pleasure to be there all the rooms we had were really lovely some with a sea view. So yes we all loved it and can't wait to go back next year

As the previous review we stayed with the same RN reunion, this was our 6th reunion, and was the best we've had so far. All of the staff we most helpful and pleasant going out of their way to help. The table setup for the reunion supper was superb as was the meal. We cannot fault it. The bedrooms and bathrooms, although a bit old fashioned, were comfortable and very clean.
Cannot fault this hotel in any way. If any other RN Associations read this then don't delay, book now. Well recommended.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2009

I have just arrived back from a thoroughly enjoyable weekend RN reunion at this hotel. I was initially put off by the adverse comments of some reviewers. Yes it does need sprucing up in places and the pool is small but we are talking about a two star hotel. The price of the hotel for DB&B is incredible, the staff were very friendly and accommodating to our requests. Their service could knock spots off many of the high-priced hotels I've stayed in. Parking is a problem as it is with every other hotel in Scarborough. Our party had about 12 cars between us and all were able to park very close to the hotel without any problems, and at no cost! We had entertainment every night of our stay. These were seasoned, talented performers and suited a middle aged audience and much better than the dross seen on X-Factor and the like.

Everyone in our party enjoyed the whole weekend so much so we have decided to pre-book for two years time and several have decided to go back for short breaks.
