“could be excational if not so expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

We were set on visiting this exhibition as we had not been before.we had checked it out on the net but did purchase our tickets at this time. I thought these prices were a bit much but not as costly as paying on the door due these prices we decided not t go in. Maybe we will try again if we can find some discount vouchers

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Over all far too expensive, we given vouchers at the door-way £5.00 each off the price, by another couple in front of us, good job as if I had paid the full price to me it would have been a rip off, the place is ok, for a couple of hours, yes nice to see the seals penguins etc etc, but nothing to shout about, the kids play area was in more use than the attractions, the whole place could do with a lick of paint and a good clean up, but we were a couple no children with us at the time, it may have been a little different if we had, but on the whole will not bother again

Thank you for your review.

I am sorry to hear that you felt disappointed with your visit to our aquarium. We strive to ensure that all of our guests have an enjoyable day visiting us.

The centre is over 20 years old and we do invest in a new feature every year as well as improving other displays.

“Waste of time and money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

We ordered tickets online which made the visit a lot cheaper than paying at the door. For the 4 of us it cost us £22, 2 adults one child and one infant. I thought that was fairly reasonable at first. When we got there the place had only just opened so it was fairly quite. We traveled around the sanctuary and had no one to talk to about the animals, no one seemed to available to ask questions which I found disappointing. When we went outside to see the penguins, seals etc. The animals looked to be in very poor condition, with poor living conditions. The kids had fun in the play area upstairs and then we left. We only spent about an hour there, and we all left disappointed. I feel sorry for the people who pay at the door, because it is really over priced. I understand that the place needs to charge to care for the animals but it needs to offer more than just a flying visit. The centre needs updating drastically in my opinion, hardly anything has changed since we visited 4 years ago. Please note don't take big pram or buggy or you will struggle to get around.

Thank you for your review.

I am disappointed to hear your comments regarding your visit and am sorry that you felt it was a waste of time and money.

The welfare of our animals is a top priority and I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that they are all well cared for and are not residing in poor living conditions. We are subject to stringent Zoo Licensing regulations and are assessed regularly and thoroughly. I am pleased to inform you that we perform above and beyond the standards that are set under these regulations.

“Very busy and hot. Not buggy friendly!!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013 via mobile

Went here in September after booking tickets online as they are much much cheaper than paying on arrival. Was greeted by a large que so took 15 mins to get in and then we had to "park" our buggy as the place isn't really friendly for buggies. There are ramps and steps to clamber and the walk ways would mean you were in people's way all the time or blocking the tanks for others to look in. The cafe was full and the place looked a little grimy so chose to leave and spend the rest of the day in Scarborough.
Might or just Ben the day we went but it was far too busy for size of the place so it was very hot indoors.

Thank you for your review.

The popularity of the aquarium can result in some queuing. We do our best to process guests in a timely manner.

Due to the age and design of the building, there are some steps within the displays. We do offer a map showing an alernative route that can be taken if you wish to take pushchairs around and our friendly team will happily assist where necessary.

We value all feedback and thank you for your comments.

“Culture morning”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

This is very large but overpriced attraction which caters for all the family but should concentrate more on what it does best eg informative talks ,saving seal pups and less on the commercialized side.you can get discount vouchers.A tip obtain and use them otherwise for a family we are talking a big cash outlay.

Thank you for your review.

I am sorry to hear that you felt your experience did not represent good value.

We monitor guest perception on this very closely and happily the vast majority believe they get excellent value for money. We also take into consideration the prices charged by competitors and are confident our pricing, given the quality of our offering is extremely competitive.
