“Pleasant tea room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

Called in on our way back from a long walk. Well set out tea room, nice and clean and good service. Limited menu and not especially cheap - but the staff were efficient, the tea was very welcome and the cake was tasty (home made and moist)

“Mad Hatties is well worth a visit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

We often get the bus from Scarborough to Scalby for lunch, or afternoon tea, and then we walk back on the old railway line. Sometimes we walk out and get the bus back. Either way Mad Hatties is well worth a visit, whether you are on foot, on the bus, or simply passing in your car.
If the weather is fine you can sit outside in the very pleasant courtyard, otherwise sit inside where it is nice and cosy!
As well as delicious cakes and sandwiches, there is a lovely gift shop too.
Highly recommended.

“mad to overlook this little gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

Had tea and coffee cake at Mad Hatties. A perfect little place to spend an hour or so. There is a lovely enclosed courtyard to sit and enjoy the scrumpcious cakes on offer. As well as cakes there were specials of tasty ciabatta breads topped with tomato and mozzarella, salads etc. soups, teacakes and so forth. After partaking in the delightful fare there is a little gift shop to explore and pick up some gifts for birthdays or even to stow away for Christmas. A venue very well worth taking time out to enjoy.

“Hidden Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

This is a great little find, even though it's just off a roundabout. The tea shop is like stepping back in time to the 50s and is well worth a visit. The food is all homemade and you can tell by the quality. The staff are lovely and you can't possibly leave without having a slice of cake - the main problem is choosing which one :).

“Visit Angies Angels!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

One of my favourite lunch time haunts. Mad Hatties has it's own parking at the side of the building and a very private courtyard for outside dining in the summer. Inside is nicely set out and feels relaxing and comfortable. The cloakroom is spotless and the food is always of a good standard, plus interesting gifts in the shop too.
The menu is as you would expect from a tearoom, sandwiches, wraps, jacket potatoes soup etc. all very well presented and fresh.
But don't think that last piece of fresh cream sponge has your name on it, because if I am there, it's mine!! Angie's cakes are works of culinary art, not to be missed.
The staff are always welcoming and friendly. Try Mad Hatties, not to be missed.
