“So cold, and so rude!”

Best Western Ox Pasture Hall Country Hotel

Apr 29, 2008

I stayed at Ox Pasture Hall in the end of march through my company. It's one of the worst experiences I've had for a long time. The heating was not working, the manager was rude about it and not very helpful. The food was served in the function suite (Nobody informed us about it) The beer was awful and the restaurant manager was extremly rude!

Dont go here unless you have to!

“Nice hotel - bad customer service”

Best Western Ox Pasture Hall Country Hotel

Apr 1, 2008

We stayed in Room 1 which was directly above reception and unfortunatley you could hear everything going on down there. On going to bed exhausted around 1am, I was kept awake for around 2 hours by reception staff talking to other staff members - and cashing up - I could hear every word. In the morning at around 7am the reception phone was ringing continuously for around 20 minutes, which in Room 1 you can hear as loudly as if it were ringing in your own room. Eventually I got fed up and went to answer the phone myself. On complaining to the manager that as a guest i shouldnt have to answer their phone in order to get some rest, he was quite rude and told me he had been 'on the toilet' for the last 25 minutes which i thought was both extemely unprofessional and highly unlikley!! An apology would have sufficed!

On complaining very calmly and reasonably at check out and saying we were happy to let them keep the deposit for the room but that we would not pay the balance (roughly half) we were put through to the owner on the phone who was extremely rude and unapologetic and told the lady checking us out that she had to call the police! Needless to say the police were not interested. We did not pay the balance of the hotel room which i feel was entirely justified since the hotel room prevented us from sleeping (surely a basic requirement of a'luxury hotel'). I was shocked that a hotel would call the police on their guests for daring to complain!

I have to add that the grounds were lovely and the rooms were well equiped and the food was good. You would probably have a nice stay if you dont stay in Room 1 and they get better staff!! There were other problems encountered on this stay but I am running out of room!

“No beer left!! At a wedding!!”

Spent the day here for a weddding. Was excellent surroundings. I didn't stay overnight but the guests who did were full of praise for the rooms. Food was also very good. Only setback was the fact that the bar ran out of lager very early on in the evening (and it wasn't an overly large wedding)!! So there were quite a few disgruntled faces about when we were having to fork out on alternatives. Also watched in amazement as my partner was handed a tequila with lemonade when she had asked for tequila with some salt and lemon. Beautiful countryside location. Highly recommend for a romantic getaway. Also only five minutes drive from scarborough.

“Beautiful hotel needing slightly mjore attention to detail”

We had been given a £150 Best Western Travel card by friends for helping them out- so we searched the BW website and settled on the Ox Pasture as being far enough away from home to feel like we were 'away' but close enough for a short break using the car. A shame that the BW site can't take their own travelcard for bookings, though!

The hotel is in an ideal situation- only 4 miles out of the town of Scarborough but surrounded by beautiful countryside in its own grounds.

A fantastic welcome by reception included being personally escorted to the room by the receptionist! We were greeted by a four poster bed and amazing view from the room over open countryside to the hills beyond.

Well furnished with leather armchairs, LCD TV and good quality 'Stag' furniture.

The public rooms are all welcoming and the bedrooms set around a courtyard with pond and fountain.

The decor is a bit strange- old classic hotel quality pictures (you know the sort of thing) in a contemporary setting mixed with cartoon dogs... wierd! Our room (Cloisters) featured 3 minute pictures (about 4cm x 6cm) spread across a massive wall.

Overall pretty good, but! Two light-bulbs out in the room. A toilet roll holder that revolved because a screw was missing, a hairdryer with a lead that would not reach a mirror, a shaving light that did not work and two cupboard doors with hinges coming off. Simple items that housekeeping should spot and remedy.

Breakfast on the second day was a stark contrast to the first day with only half a sausage and a wafer thin slice of black pudding- running out possibly? If you book make sure that breakfast is included- it's a long trip into town and at £12.95 a time you do not want to be paying seperately!

“Boutique at its Best”

Best Western Ox Pasture Hall Country Hotel

Jan 25, 2008

Just got back from a weekend at Ox Pasture Hall and it was fantastic. The hotel markets itself as a luxury boutique hotel and it certainly stood up to its word. The hotel bedrooms had just been refurbished and where spectacular. The bedrooms are individual, some with four poster beds, others french sleigh beds and so on. Our room was a large king size 4-poster with luxury fittings. The TV in our room was a LCD flat screen with digital free view. The lady who took us to our room said all the rooms had been fitted with new flat screen TVs.

We dined in the restaurant on the last night and the food was a treat. Culinary perfection. We only wished we had dined the first night as well. The service was equally as good although I thought the restaurant was a little understaffed.

In summary, I think Ox Pasture Hall is FANTASTIC. We had a relaxing weekend in an amazing hotel, worthy of its luxury boutique tag.
