after reading the advert on tele text, offering a last minute deal we telephoned and made a reservation for a large room for three persons with a sea view. on arrival the receptionists couldnt find our reservation it had not been put in the book and as we hadn't arrived untill late in the afternoon they struggled to find us a suitable room the first room 415 was a double room with a rusty fire escape for the view and no space for a single bed so we waited for the reception to locate another room which was not a sea view like we booked originally, dissappointingly drab decor, curtains were hanging off the curtain pole, paper blistering off the walls where there was obviously a severe damp problem, a z bed was put up for us but it blocked the wardrobes, that evening when we went to the restaurant for dinner we weren't booked in there either, they struggled to put a tyable together for us, e were gven the menu's and the wine menu, we ordered dinner but had to wait until half way through the main course for a wine waiter to take any drink orders, the food was nice but service was diabolically slow, as it was cold outside and we were told there was entertainment on we stayed in to watch the entertainment what a dissapointment, a young fillippino man with a lispwho wailed hisa way through a few 50's 60's and 70's hits by the second half the concert room was empty, the following morning we requested to speak to management, and we were told he was busy. the head receptionist was very rude when we complained about the service, we went out for the morning returning at 1pm to find our room still hadn't been serviced a young lady who was cleaning another room on the same landing told us that management had told her that arrivals came 1st and anyone already booked in could wait. as my husband is diabetic we needed the room facilities for rest bite.so we ask at reception how long it was going to be and we were rudly told well you only paid a cheap price inferring that if you pay a cheaper rate you get a poorer service. we requested to speak to management yet again who phoned me on my mobile an hour later, and he asked us what we wanted him to do about it he said he would see what he could do and sort something out and would see us on our return at 5pm. on our return this manager was no where to be seen and another manager was in his place, who again said as we had not payed full price for the room there was nothing he was prepared to do, once they have got your money at the royal hotel they quite obviously dont give a damn i often take short breaks in yorkshire will not be returning to this archaeic dump with rude staff and i wont be reccomending it to anyone.
