“The perfect start to Christmas!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2009

We have just had the most wonderful weekend at the Royal Hotel in Scarborough. This was for a Christmas “do” and is the second year we’ve been. We stayed from Friday through until Monday and it was just the perfect start to Christmas. There were 29 of us in total, friends and relatives along with my husband and me.
Our party night on 19 December was great. The food was served up very efficiently and was hot and really tasty. The disco played some fab tunes and the band, Minus Benn, had us on the dance floor for ages.
The hotel is wonderfully Victorian with some awesome period features. We had an upgrade to a suite and it was like having our own apartment for the weekend. The hotel also has a small pool, a sauna, steam room and spa. Perfect for lounging around with the outside temperature being about -2, brrrrrr!
The staff were very attentive and polite so thanks to them for helping make the weekend so memorable. We’ll be back again next year for certain.

We had stayed here before and thought it was ok and chose it again, mainly for it's great location but this time we were very impressed. The hotel has had a refit and we think it is the nicest Hotel we have stayed in in the UK. The public rooms are lovely, especially the lovely staircase and newly decorated Theatre Bar ( great food) and the bedrooms are very well furnished. I would agree that a sea view is worth it but even without , the room was nice, bed was comfortable, the place ( though fully booked ) was quiet and professionally run. Friendly staff in all areas, great leisure centre.

Breakfast is delicious and again in a lovely sea front restaurant. Service is good and the staff smile!

Highly recommended.

After arriving home after a weekend break at The Royal Hotel, I feel thoroughly rejuvenated. The hotel gives a grand first impression through its magnificent central staircase and entrance lobby. High standards were experienced in all aspects of the hotel from arriving at reception to a helpful and bubbly receptionist, to the food in the restaurant - which was beyond their three star rating, being beautifully presented and tasty. The bedroom was decorated in a contempory fashion with lavish furnishings, however, the best part of bedroom was the stunning sea views – definitely worth the upgrade. The leisure facilities were extensive, with not only a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym, but a beauty salon also. The staff in all departments were helpful and friendly, remembering you personally with no request too much to ask, creating a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable atmosphere. This hotel was a rare hospitality treat and I shall defiantly be returning.

Having found the Royal Hotel on the internet we booked online on a great offer on their website. From start to finish the stay was great. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Food in the dining room was womderful and the bloody marys in the bar were fantastic. Great room with sea view and comfy bed. We will both be back!

We are a group of Line Dancers and we have been booking the hotel each November for a number of years now, we have a brilliant time every year. The staff are always very helpful (especially John, he is always there when we need him to sort out the ballroom or carry the equipment for us etc etc ... you should get a pay rise John :-)

The rooms are lovely and the food is excellent, if we have had any minor problems the staff quickly sort things out for us.

Whenever I email the hotel they are quick to reply and answer my questions.

The only negative is the car parking ... or lack of, however there is a large municipal car park that we use and the hotel give a discount,

The shops are very close to the hotel and in walking distance.

I would recommend this hotel for functions and we are looking forward to many more line dancing years there.

After reading all the negative comments on this site we were dubious about booking this hotel, however it was half the price of the other 2 hotels available in the area with a swimming pool so we thought we would give it a go (we stayed with an Autumn saver deal DBB for 3 nights). There were some minor bad points, as you would expect of any hotel of this age with a similar rating. A bit of modernisation is needed in the rooms and pool area but the food, restaurant staff and location were excellent. We would definitely stay there again with a similar deal.

This is the worst hotel that I've ever stayed in. 11 of us stayed here for my granddad's 80th birthday at a cost of over £1200. The staff were incredibly rude, they lost our luggage and expected us to find it. The state of the rooms was horrendous. A superior double is 2 single beds pushed together with peeling wall paper and holes in the wall.
We prebooked spa treatments before we arrived but the therapist was not aware as the treatments had been booked for the wrong month. We did get treatments but they were overpriced and the manicure and pedicure products were cheap and bought from boots which when you're paying those prices you expect more.

The hotel is centrally located and the food was good but the attitude of the staff and the quality of the rooms lets this hotel down a lot
