“Best hotel we have ever stayed in ......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2014

We booked a short break over a weekend staying in 2 hotels in Scarborough. I found this one as the hotel we usually stay in was fully booked as it was hosting a wedding. Well, I could not believe how stunning our room was. Beautiful views. Recently decorated and immaculately clean. Very comfortable super king bed. Rooms very warm. If you are wanting a quiet and tranquil break then this is the hotel for you. No children (sadly for families but great for couples wanting to get away). The staff could not do enough for you. After a long day out exploring we would finish the evening off with a large glass of something tucked in the quiet corner of the lounge in front of a log fire. Relaxed atmosphere. Great room service. Simply wonderful and was such a treat for my birthday. They are refurbishing at the moment so be patient. I just hope that the prices don't go up when it is completed as I cannot wait to go back.

Room Tip: For a real treat book a 'De-Luxe' room as we did. There is another category better than thi...

what a lovely location, and quit clearly the owners are trying very hard to turn this hotel into a great retreat. first and foremost the staff are really good, special thank you to jack who can obviously turn his hand to anything to ensure your stay runs smoothly.
the food was special, and I feel will be hard to beat around north Yorkshire at the price they charge.Once the hotel completes its refurbishment you will have a very upmarket hotel with quality food, and a location which will suit people who appreciate the nicer things in lie.

thank you for a lovely stay on a very busy mothers day

mike

Room Tip: room 19 very nice, pay the extra and upgrade

A massive thanks to the very competent and professional Anne, Jack and all the lovely friendly staff for making our Golden Wedding such a wonderful and memorable occasion.
Our party of 12 were treated to wonderful food and drink by attentive friendly staff in a fantastic venue and superb atmosphere.
We occupied the private Rose Room and would without hesitation recommend it to anyone considering a similar party. Our experience was second to none the chef and his team produced quality and wonderfully presented food the service and ambience was A1
Well done everyone for delivering a brilliant experience.

I stay away quite often on business and in hotels throughout the country, and this hotel has fast became my favourite!

I found it, as I'm sure many of you have, by virtue of it being the top-rated Scarborough hotel on Tripadvisor and it more than lives up to its billing. Having tried a few other hotels in the area I was beginning to get fed up with hotels full of bus trips, no parking and shabby interior.

The hotel is very tastefully and traditionally decorated, and is currently in the process of a full renovation. The rooms are quite simply superb! One of my personal pet hates is a 'super king size' bed which is actually two single mattresses laid side by side and an uncomfortable ridge in the middle, but thankfully that is not the case here! There has been no expense spared on the beds and the bedding and coupled with the peaceful location, this makes for an extremely refreshing nights sleep. The standard of decor and attention to detail is again reflected in the bathroom, with a deep and fast-filling bath and powerful shower.

The food is as of high a standard as in any restaurant I've been in; the dinner menu is adventurous and the dishes are both delicious and well presented, without any 'run of the mill' fare you'd find in most other places. To my limited knowledge, the wine list seems to be carefully considered and with something for all tastes.

There is a small and extremely dedicated team of staff who run the hotel, all of whom have an attentive, positive and friendly manner. Their attention to detail is what really sets them apart - this is my third visit to the hotel and the time I like to dine has already been recognised and noted, and a table had been booked on my behalf tonight. You just wouldn't find this in the chains!

I've stayed in rooms 15 and 16 so far, both of which have great views over the moors, and the grounds would be well worth exploring if you're here on holiday rather than business.

Honestly haven't got one word of complaint, very highly recommended!

We took a punt on Wrea Head Hall having never heard of this hotel, having looked at lots of other places in the north and having pestered lovely jack several times over the phone I finally gave into what ever was drawing me to this place. Wow, from the moment we arrived we felt like we were merely staying for a weekend in someone's country house. There's a lovely relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home, free to wonder round and explore, nowhere is off limits. Staff are attentive but almost invisible which maintains the illusion that you're not in a hotel but in a private home.we loved our room, not yet renovated but still sumptuous and elegant, we loved the fact it was once the private bedroom of the original lady of the house, the bed was the comfiest bed I have ever slept in at a hotel and the views were out of this world. Food, what can I say, other than exceptional, dinner was beautifully presented and tasted sublime. Breakfast was also wonderful and plentiful. To the owners and staff keep doing what you're doing we had the most fabulous weekend, your hotel is like a breath of fresh air, perfection.

Stayed here for one night with a friend of mine and thought it was lovely. Bags of character with amazing ceilings and wood panelling everywhere. It seems there's ongoing renovations so should be fab when it's all done. The room was gorgeous with large windows overlooking the lawns. There was even a helicopter sitting on the back lawn! The bathroom was very smart but unfortunately the drench head in the shower wasn't working but I imagine it would be brilliant if it was. There was a bath in the bedroom which added a touch of decadence to the room. The bed was really comfortable and I had a great night's sleep. The staff were all so helpful and friendly, really rare to find somewhere where you haven't got a bad word to say about one member of staff!
The next time I visit Scarborough I would definitely come back here and I highly recommend everyone else does too!

Room Tip: Room 1 is a lovely, big, bright room with lovely views.

Just returned from weekend break staying in room 1.Whilst there is on-going work relating to the renovation of the hotel this really had no impact on us or effected out stay in any way.
Positives:
The hotels number one strength is without doubt its staff. Each one, in particular Len (thanks Len for the late night milk) excelled in making us feel special with nothing too much trouble. The staff massively contribute to making the hotel feel like a special oasis achieving the perfect balance of service and homeliness.
The food was on the whole extremely good although as a tip to the hotels accountant the portion sizes at dinner could have been smaller with no room for complaints. Would suggest though some thought as to the need for an indulgent menu alongside the standard one. Both my wife and I preferred the meal from the standard menu and personally would like to see a focus on one sound and varied menu as opposed to two.
Room: Exactly as described with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. In addition the ambience of the hotel at night in particular added to the romantic country house retreat feel.
Negatives:
Very few, although with a view to providing assistance to the hotel as opposed to criticism would state the following
Dining Room-In variance to previous reviews we felt the dining room to be a little on the stark side with lighting that was far too bright. Softer lighting and with the candles would have helped.
In room hotel guide- Suggest removal of the reference to a pre dinner cocktails on the grounds that no cocktails are served.
Bed- Whilst large and sumptuous looking the mattress was very firm with poor quality pillows on our first night (prior to a request for feather pillows)
All in all a wonderful break in a hotel that appears to have a very bright future with fantastic staff.

Room Tip: Room 1 is as exactly as the photos show on the website
