Description: Take a step back in time. . . Francis Tea Rooms is set in an original 1930's hairdressing salon, complete with wood-pannelled booths. It has an unique atmosphere with hand embroidered tablecloths and Art Deco vases. We serve Taylors coffee and a variety of their loose teas in vintage china. A varied menu of brunch, light lunches and afternoon teas is available as well as a large selection of homemade cakes, tray bakes and scones. Our specialities are Homemade Soups, Welsh Rarebits, Quiches and Traditional Afternoon Teas. Our own recipe scones, lemon meringue pie and fresh fruit almond cakes earned us a place in The Guardians Top Ten Budget Eats - Yorkshire Coast 2010.

“Wonderful...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

Have only just found this little treasure hidden away in the back streets of Scarborough. The locals have kept this a valued secret! It is absolutely wonderful, it was like stepping back in time. I did feel very under-dressed and wanted to run to the nearest costume hire shop. The atmosphere is lovely very authentic, the staff are so friendly and helpful. I will be definitely returning there next visit. Love it...

“Great little period restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012 via mobile

Tucked away on South Street near the Esplanade, the 1930/40's theme is charming with appropriate background music including the Glen Miller Band. Leaf tea served with a strainer (long time since I used one of these) and the food excellent. Service was quick, efficient and pleasant. Definitely worth a visit.

“Take a cup of leaf tea in a 1930s tea room!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012 via mobile

This tea room is tricky to find, but well worth the effort and there is a car park at the corner of the street.
Walking in is like stepping into the past, everything is vintage and so genuine. We visited an hour before closing and they'd had a very busy day so had sadly run out of scones. Instead my family chose huge sundaes and I had a home made chocolate brownie. Lovely pot of leaf tea with tea strainer and additional jug of hot water!
The whole experience was wonderful with lovely 1930s music playing. The waitress was friendly and helpful.
Definitely make the effort to find this amazing place!

“Quirky and fascinating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

Wow - what an usual little cafe.
This is a converted art-deco hairdressers - with the booths converted into little tea rooms.
Mixed pretty china and embroidered cloths create the 1930's feel.
The food is good and is reasonably priced.
Definitely worth a visit

“A Fabulous & Unique Tea Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012

Francis Tea Rooms is so different to any other cafe or tea rooms in Scarborough. Most tables are in individual oak-pannelled booths, so you almost feel like you're in your own private room. The nice table cloths and lovely china, as well as the pictures, and chandeliers really add to the feel of the place. We visited in the afternoon, so opted for the delicious Mariners Tea which came with salmon, crab, and prawn sandwiches, and a scone with preserve and fresh cream, and there is a vast selection of teas to choose from. The menu also had a good choice of sandwiches, cakes, light meals etc and the home baked cakes looked very tempting too. We received good service from our Waitress, who was friendly and helpful. I sounds like it's advisable to reserve a table, as it's a popular place. We will definitely be back again, and would very much recommend Francis Tea Room - do try it.
