“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

Stayed here for one night, had to carry luggage, lift not working ,I have since been told by other people that this is not unusual! had a room at the back, lovely view of a filthy yard!!,this place is like a rabbit warren ,it has been converted out of an old hotel, they would have done better to demolish & start again! The room was very dingy I had to put all the lights on including the bathroom, to make it seem habitable!,that is the, lights that were working! both bedside lamps werent working nor the shaver light in the bathroom, no plug for the sink less than half a toilet roll & no spare,I had to go &ask for one,Very disappointing compared to other Travelodges I have used, would I stay again? No,we moved across the road to the Premier Inn,my advice is go to the Premier Inn in the first place!if you are staying in Scarborough its well worth the extra money

Room Tip: dont go there in the first place!

I stayed for one night at the Scarborough travel lodge and the whole experience from start to finish was terrible. We arrived with our 22 month old daughter to find out we were on the third floor, and the lift was out of order. This meant we had to carry a pram, clothes, suitcase, and our daughter up approx 9 sets of stairs.
Our room was fine once there, but we felt a little trapped in the hotel as to go out on the evening we were going to have to carry alot of equipment downstairs.
In addition to this there was no parking outside the hotel so we had to drag our belongings from a nearby car par. Again this with a toddler was a nightmare. Also the cost was nightmarish - £10.00
I was very unhappy as I rang the hotel the week before and was not informed of the issue regarding parking due to the road being resurfaced neither was there an alert on the website. This might have been useful.
On arrival I asked for some extra bedding for the travel cot. 2 hours later it was not with me. I asked again, an hour later it was not with us. My husband complained to the duty manager and it appeared. Very poor customer service on all counts. Yet none of this is the worst part.
We decided to eat in the hotel. Bad mistake. My husband was served raw peri peri chicken, we had no cutlery and had to practically beg for it, and my veggie burger came without the sauce. At the price of 24 pounds including drinks we were far than happy.
helen: I will be informing people of the terrible service and advising that people choose anither 'budget' hotel in the area. I paid 40 pounds for the room and 24 for a meal, and really feel as if it was not worth this.
I have stayed in many travel lodges and generally everything has been adequate however this time it was below par and spoilt the end to our few days away.

We arrived at 1:30pm (hour and a half too early to be booked in) but reception was polite and said we could wait in the lounge/bar area, she also offered us a complimentory cup of tea. Stayed here 5 nights. The room was large with ensuite bathroom. heating was on, made it a welcoming feel. The view was not great (room was at rear of hotel), so if its a view you want ask for a front/sea view room. Other reception staff were helpful when we asked for a second duvet, Febuary not the warmest of times to visit coastal areas. The price was only £12(£60+£1.50 Insurance) a night as we had one of there special offer stays. As for meals can`t say anything about because we ate out. Would definately stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room.

My husband and I have stayed here on several occasions since it opened and this was the most disappointing stay we have had. The reception and parts of the hotel smelled of damp. There were clear signs that the building had had considerable water damage as there was mould and peeling paint in common areas. The room we had was quite dull and it also looked as though it had had water damage on the ceiling. The shower curtain was too short for the shower cubicle and as result we ended up with a wet floor in the bathroom. The door on the bathroom didn't fit the door frame, large gaps here and there. The carpets everywhere were looking quite tired as well. It looked as though it needed some serious renovating in areas.

It's a shame hat this hotel has gone downhill as we had thought of it as being a really good travelodge before this stay.

We have just had a two night stay at the St Nicholas Hotel, Scarborough. We are a family of four and had booked for a couple of nights away with the children. We were greeted warmly by the receptionist whop dealt with us in a speedy and proficient manner. Our room had a great view of the sea and although facing onto the road it was nice and quiet. Although it is an old building, and has obviously been rearranged to accomodate more rooms, we found it to be very tidy. We did not expect a great deal for our room, but we were more than happy with the size of it, the beds and the facilities. We had breakfast both mornings and were all more than happy with what was on offer. The staff were really helpful and pleasant in all our dealings with them.
It is within easy walking of the beach/harbour/shops.
We will be staying here again when we visit for another break.
The only downside is parking, but there are plenty of car parks within a short distance if you are unable to park out front.

Room Tip: Best rooms are at the front or at the bottom corner. Lovely views out across the bay.

We stayed here for one night, we were looking for a basic and clean place to stay and that's what we got :)

the room we stayed in was for 2 people, it was fairly small but beds were comfy and the bathroom was nice. The maintenance wasn't kept up to - bin slightly broken, remote not working, mucky windows on the outside - but we dealt with it. Unfortunately there was a dead bird in our view stuck in the nets. We stayed with other people who for the same price stayed in a family room - definately get if they're the same price next time! There's was much larger although the third bed didn't look comfy.

The location was good probably 10 minute walk to the front, but the tram takes 15 seconds and is 75p. On an evening the grand hotel is just across the road who put a show on on Saturdays which was nice. Mainly 70/80s music. It was nice to be able to come in at any time with a key card and be able to stay in the room until 12.

Overall if you just want somewhere to sleep near the front this place is fine :)

Wasn't allowed into the room until 3pm. The room was clean with a view of the sea and was a reasonable size with a shower room. Was a bit disappointed on entering when realizing there was no bath. Was equally disappointed when I found we were directly next to the lift and could hear it humming up and down complete with the mono tone elevator voice "doors opening...doors closing".
The bed was ok but came with only 3 pillows. The ceiling had been half painted and forgotten about and the tv only had 7 channels 2 of which were radio. Wifi wasn't even free.
House keeping came round at 11am the next morning even though check out wasn't while 12 which was abit strange as no-one is allowed to check in while 3pm anyway.
I know their only travel lodges but come on!

Room Tip: One that isnt next to a lift
