The sunshine finally decided to show it's face so myself, my husband, our 2 kids and my brother, his fiance and his friend decided to get out and enjoy it with an afternoon of drinks in the beer garden at the cask.
Beer garden is a bit small and it's soemwhat annoying that all the tables are screwed down so there is no flexibility in rearranging chairs/benches which would have been good with 7 of us! Drinks prices were ok, nothing too inflated but not the cheapest either. They had a few good bottles of wine which we supped a few of so can't complain there!
We decided to get some food around 6 ish and altogether we ordered a Thai green curry, 2 mixed grills, 2 kids meals and a panini and chips. The panini and kids meals were ok for the price paid and what I expected from a typical local pub. The mixed grills however left a bit to be desired. The could have fitted on the kids meal plates and for the price tag of £14 each they were very disappointing. The Thai green curry takes the trophy however! First of all it was red (that should have been our first clue!), it had a layer of oil on top and was watery thin, there was very little taste except heat from chilies and so wasn't really worth the money, and also, since when do you serve naan bread with Thai curry?!
To be fair to the staff they were friendly and helpful, and we didn't mention our disappointment in some of the food to them. Overall I would go back to the Cask for a few drinks on a sunny afternoon and I might get something to eat but it would be something basic like a panini, as it seems they can't get that wrong!
