“Hotel by the sea!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

Hotel lovely.
Sea view, lovely.
Staff, lovely.
Food....terrible!

Dinner and breakfast is like a millitery operation, order taken and food arrives within 2 minutes!
Plate cleared and second corse arrives within 2 minutes...and so on.
All food must be cooked way in advance and kept in warmers, the same goes for breakfast!
Such a shame as hotel and staff lovely, and as for sea view...there's no better!

Room Tip: sea view! Room Only!

The hotel was great. The views were fantastic so were the staff. A big hotle with lots of space and rooms so all the guests are not on top of each other over all a great place. The food was great and the spa facilities were amazing. It is Coles to the town and the beech.

My husband and I have just returned after five wonderful days at the Royal York and Faulkner Hotel, Sidmouth,Devon. We arrived on the 23rd December at 3.30pm and Afternoon Tea was being served - this was the start of a fantastic Christmas!
Apart from the expected meals, (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) there was Coffee/Tea with mincepies at 11.0am (Mulled Wine and Mincies on Boxing Day). Afternoon tea was served every day with all homemade scones, fancy cakes and Christmas Cake, etc., etc.,!
In the evening there was different entertainment which included dancing/carol singers and quizes.
The room was, second to none - absolutel cleanliness, very, comfortable bed and lovely decor.
The food (under the direction of Head Chef Mark, was excellent and so much of it!
It is definitely the best Christmas we have ever had and we would recomment the Hotel to anyone - also all the staff were so helpful and very friendly.
.

Room Tip: As the Hotel is on the Esplanade, a sea view would be very nice.

We recently spent 3 nights at this hotel. We were really impressed. Everyone was extremely friendly, we had a lovely sea view room and a very very comfortable bed. The food was superb - silver service - excellent choice and beautifully presented. The staff were very personable and appeared very happy to be able to help. We felt that the hotel should be 5* not 2* and would thoroughly recommend it. Extremely good value for money. Sidmouth is a small town with lots of interesting shops and everywhere was very clean.

Room Tip: We chose a sea view room because of the view.

We love this hotel so were looking forward to another visit - strong winds and rain were heralded so we left home early to travel the 120 miles before the storm began. What a joy to arrive at such a lovely warm and welcoming hotel - the seas may have been menacing outside but inside was the usual haven of peace. Lovely food, good service and helpful and efficient staff. Our stay was as delightful as ever.

Room Tip: It is worth paying for a room with a sea view if you can. There may occasionally be traffic noise b...

Disagree very strongly with the review of Lovetoad. I am in my 60's and I stayed at this Hotel in October of this year with Roberts Coach Travel. The Hotel is very relaxing and I found the food lovely no complaints at all. Staff very good and nothing too much trouble. I stayed as a single person and my room was on the ground floor, very comfortable lovely furniture and the bathroom looked new. I consider myself very active and modern and love entertainment and good food with a good Hotel. This holiday was so good I have booked again for next year. I met some lovely people staying there and they were also around my age and staying independently. Entertainment was only on 2 nights during my stay but on the other 2 nights I sat and chatted or played dominoes with some other ladies of my age I met on the coach trip.Very convenient for the lovely shops and I found great walks up to the gardens, to the Ford or just the town. Did go to Exmouth and took a boat trip on the River Ex. Lovely break.

Room Tip: I was a single lady so had a single room on the ground floor. Ladies also on the coach stayed on the...
