On arrival for a nine day break, we were warmly welcomed to the Hollies Guest House by Mike and Pam with tea, coffee, fruit-bread and biscuits. After a long journey, it was a great thought. It is worth noting that there is plenty of room to park at the Hollies.
Our large en-suite room was quiet, bright and very clean with a large bay window to the front. Fresh flowers, complimentary and daily refilled toffees, chocolate biscuits, bottled water, teas and coffees were a lovely touch. Also the high class toiletries in the bathroom were very well received. The walk-in shower was easy to use. Our room had Freeview TV, DVD playing facility and an alarm clock radio. All these things show how much care and thought Mike and Pam give to provide their guests with a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Breakfast was terrific! On the table, from which you could help yourself, was a great selection, including cereals and muesli, fresh fruit (including strawberries, blueberries, cherries, raspberries, bananas, melon), prunes, grapefruit segments, local home-made jams and marmalade, yoghurts, nuts and raisins, tomato and brown sauce, endless coffee etc. In addition, pots of tea, a variety of toast (with home-made bread made by Pam), could be ordered. For the main course, always beautifully cooked and presented, the full English breakfast consisted of locally sourced sausages, bacon and eggs, vine tomatoes, beans, mushrooms. Other options included delicious American pancakes with maple syrup, blueberries, greek yoghurt, and crispy bacon or smoked salmon with scrambled eggs.
Pam and Mike did their utmost to ensure all guests enjoyed their days out, (including helping out guests from overseas) and suggested walking routes and other towns and villages to visit. They produced maps, bus and tide timetables, for those that needed them. The location of The Hollies is great. Within a couple of minutes stroll you are at the top end of the main shopping street in Sidmouth, a cinema and at several good restaurants. The seafront in less than 10 minutes away. In the other direction, within a minute you can cross a bridge and have the option of entering a peaceful park alongside the river or walking down to the sea via a riverside walk, ford, some Victorian back streets, passing an indoor swimming pool and the Tourist Information office.
If you are looking for a friendly, clean, welcoming, well-located B&B guest house to stay in Sidmouth where you will never be allowed to go hungry, then The Hollies is thoroughly recommended!
