“nice place with friendly hosts”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2009

We stayed one night at the Groveside, during our holiday hiking the coastal path. Our hosts were very hospitable and accommodating. Breakfast in the morning was wonderful, and set us up well for the day.
The location was not the best, however, being on a fairly busy road, and it was a bit of a walk from the town centre. The very small room was clean and the bed was comfy, but the decor of the room itself could stand upgrading - the "disco"-ish look of the room was cheap-looking and dated, and did not do justice to the rest of the place.

1st class sevice, on arrival met by the most pleasant and proffessional proprioters
and throughout the stay nothing was too much trouble.
The room was furnished to the highest standard, a standard one would expect from a
five star hotel including a LCD TV.
Located just a five minute strole from the centre of Sidmouth shopping and the beach
within easy reach of something to suite all ages.
To get the"least liked" out of the way first, this can only atributed to our English weather,
as for what we liked best , being treated like royalty by Alan and Linda for the whole of
our stay, not forgetting to mention their grandson William who like the owners was very
knowledgeable about aminities in the area.Although you cant book half board Linda
would, given notice provide an evening meal and this was cooked to a very high
standard.

P.S it also helped to be aware that the Groveside has won an award for best Devon B&B in a midlands magazine,2010 will once again find us booking in at the Groveside,

The room was a great size with an ensuite bathroom, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was lovely and everything we asked for was provided. There was plently of parking which made things much easier.
It was a lovely stay and would recommend The Groveside to anyone.

The month of May each year brings around Donkey Week in Sidmouth, Devon. This is absolute donkey heaven and a must for donkey lovers of all ages. For the past few years our party has stayed at the Groveside Guest House in Sidmouth during Donkey Week.
From the minute we arrive at the Groveside to the moment we reluctantly drag ourselves away after a perfect 7 days, we are treated like royalty by Lin, Alan, William and Petra. Lin is an absolute star, with seemingly boundless energy and enthusiasm. Her sense of style is obvious with the marvellous decor in the bedrooms and bathrooms. Breakfasts and evening meals are so delicious and impecably presented.
This year Lin and Alan have created a 'guest garden', which is a lovely spot at the rear of the house, where you can sit peacefully to relax and enjoy the scenery.
We look upon Lin and her family as friends now and we cannot wait to return each year. We have such an enjoyable stay at the Groveside every time. The attention to detail is superb and everything adds up to make our stay just perfect . Thank you Lin for all that you do to make us want to come back again and again.. Here's to 2010 when we will be back in Sidmouth for another Donkey Week and 'Groveside experience'.

A very accessible B&B for Sidmouth - 10 mins walk to the town and sea front. I did not quite score it 5 for location, as at the front is a road which is busy during the daytime - and we could hear some traffic noise from our room.

Very clean - bedrooms, communal areas, dining room and guests' lounge.

Very good breakfast - cooked well, and cereals, toast etc

We had the King Room, which is spacious and though the bathroom is not huge, it is clean with a very good shower (no bath, for information purposes, in this room though.) Comfortable bed, and table with chairs by the bay window overlooking the road. Flat screen TV.

Overall, a "hidden gem" - very solid and comfortable B&B. Was there anything I did not like ? Yes - the parking. Not merely the fact there are not enough places (I would say you could get one car at the front and 5 at the side) but more that it is awkward to reverse out of the property if you have parked front-end in, as some people parked cars by side of house, allowing a narrow gap. You also reverse on to a busy road. One solution I can offer to the hosts is why not remove the front wall ? This would allow much easier access and probably then fit on 3 cars on front drive if parked front-end in.

But as I say, a very enjoyable stay. And the hosts are very friendly and helpful. Would stay here again....

Superb Breakfast, the hosts couldn't do enough for my 3 night midweek stay.
I was in the skylight room which was tastefully decorated. The location of the Groveside was great for my purpose of visiting other local businesses, being just a short walk down to the high street, would recommend.

14th-16th November 2008

The welcome from Alan and Lin were like we were family.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Groveside, this time in the Jazz room which we found decorated to a very good standard with lovely crisp linen and fluffy towels.

For breakfast there were a selection of cereals and fresh fruit. My Husband had the full English breakfast which was not greasy and set him up for the day, I had scrambled eggs which were light and fluffy and extra tea and toast were offered.

The Groveside is a short stroll to the town just far enough to walk off breakfast.

We will be definitely be returning in the future and would recommend the Groveside as Alan and Lin are excellent hosts.
