Me & my boyfriend stayed at the hotel for 2 nights, 13th & 14th Feb. We work shifts at Heathrow Airport so it was conveniently located for us to be able to spend Valentines together with work commitments etc.
First off, I have given the hotel a rating of 4 (Above average) because it is above average for a Travelodge.
We booked our rooms about a month in advance via the Travelodge website and ended up paying £19 a night.
The hotel is large and modern and is probably the nicest Travelodge you will ever stay in. There is a bar area that has ample seating and serves a varied menu of snack type meals as well as some more substantial meals, breakfast buffet is always served here, we didn’t use these facilities but they looked good and the food menu was varied and reasonably priced.
We asked for a room with a bath & shower so were given a family room, it was very modern, spacious and clean with nice little touches. Flat screen TV on the wall and tea and coffee making facilities. The room however has a SERIOUS lack of storage space, I guess in most cases this is ok but if you were located here for a week +, it really would be a case of living out of your bag.
We didn’t use the shuttle bus but did see it arriving frequently, costs £4 each way, per person to reach the terminal.
The other main problem seems to be parking, there is a lack of spaces which can really create a problem, especillay if you want to pop out... your space won’t be there when you get back. During the day the car park is empty, at night it’s full to the brim, so it depends when you are arriving as to whether you can expect it to be a problem. Parking is £5 a night - which is quite normal and reasonable for airport hotels, there is no short/long stay parking available though. Parking seems as if it will be ticketed with entry and exit barriers but as yet these were not in use so it was just a case of advising reception and paying.
The hotel is obviously new and you can see that some things are still being worked on, but overall it is well presented with few problems and all the staff we encountered are friendly and helpful.
My main complaint would be SINAGE!! The hotel is situated in an area where there are many warehouse facilities and trucking depots (industrial estate) and there is one small sign that says Travelodge. We know the area and we still struggled to actually find the entrance, as did our taxi driver who was on hour late, making us an hour late for a dinner reservation!!
Overall this is a good low budget hotel and I would recommend it for an overnight stay before a flight etc, but just remember not to expect the earth, you pay for what you get and it is refreshing to have a "budget" airport hotel which will be well needed with the addition of Terminal 5!
My main advice would be ....
1 - If you need a taxi, use the hotels choice - they are about the same price as other firms and they know where the hotel is!
2 - Be prepared to struggle to park if you arrive anytime after about 6pm.
