The Upton Park Hotel used to be a charming, but slightly run-down and shoddy place, with the odd wet spot on the walls and funny smells, too.
In the last five years however, the new owners have worked miracles on the place. It's been completely refurbished and very lovingly, too - even with matching bedsheets and curtains!
Staff will do anything to keep you happy, breakfast is a very nice Full English, with a great selection of cereals also available -one day, when we had other plans for breakfast, they even rang us up and asked whether we were planning to come down or they would wait for us before closing down! Nice!
In the evening, you can get standard pub food and brilliant curries and a decent pint, too. Watch TV together with the other guests (we watched England vs Poland the other night) or in the comfort of your room, the Upton Park Hotel is like a home away from home, like a pub without the need to go out and a more than welcome alternative in the business hotel hell that is Slough - it's quiet, it's safe and it's merely 5 minutes on foot to the centre and station.
I'm well aware that going to Slough as a tourist borders on perversion, but I do from time to time.
The Upton Park Hotel will always be my first choice.
