“Vey Clean and Nice Hotel for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2011

Ive just read some of the reviews about this hotel yes its not near T5 and yes the heating controls are hard to see but with reagrds to crime and the area being run down yes its not the nicest looking place in the area but unless you are going sight seeing around the hotel who cares. we were staying over for a funeral and my father in law lives just around the corner and no crime has happened to him so get your fact s right people do use these reviews to actually book hotels.... There is a convience shop nearby thats probably where the kids hang out and a petrol stattion over the road plus a chinese/fish and chip shop. Going back to hotel breakfast was good and the rooms were really nice and we are staying again as a family this time having 2 rooms as i felt this hotel was ok for kids. We dont park at the hotel because £7.50 per night is a rip off but other than that for a sleep over this hotel is very comforatble and i would recommend it.

Fundamentally a hotel is just a collection of boxes that we pay to stay in; all the hotel can do is get the box right as far as possible within their budget, employ reasonable staff, and hope. So how does the Holiday Inn Express fare?

The room are larger than one might expect, and being a new build are still fresh and clean, but critcally one thing they get really right is the pillows. Nothing matters more than sleep quality and here you get a choice of soft and hard pillows. Joy. AFter that everything else is a bonus

Staff are friendly, there are enough of them around for effiicient check in and departure.

Oddities and disappointments? Well, charging for WiFi should be illegal but this is an airport hotel so you expect to be ripped off on that score. The hotel smells a bit odd, being new. Corridors smell faintly of rubber and the stairwells smell disctictly like the interior of a new Audi. No doubt in six months they will smell of old Fiat, or nothing at all. The food is disappointing. Burgers are especially poor, but again this is a cheap airport hotel so one might expect that

Overall then, a win for Holiday Inn Express, and this will be my preferred choice until somewhere nearby has free internet.

Good points,
o Close to the M4 so handy for travelling when working around Stockley Park etc. it's not at T5 though if that's what you expect.
o Rooms are good, well equipped for working in and very comfortable
o Food in the restaurant is good, breakfast is very very basic but certainly adequate

Negatives,
o Parking @ £7.50 a night is an expensive addition to what is a fairly pricy room to begim with
o Check in staff are not attentive, stayed two nights and my room card expired after day 1
o I booked a D+B&B package, on day 1 I had a steak, on day 2 the steak was going to cost me another £4 - then I was told the Dinner was only for two courses - OK I only wanted two in any case but would have been nice to know when I booked
0 Bar staff on the first night were more interested in cleaning up the bar than actually serving any customers - quite expensive too.
o Construction work starts at about 7:30/8 am next door - OK I was already up - glad I didn't arrive on an early flight and wanted to sleep in - no one can sleep with that!
o At check out I was one of six guests waiting with one person on the desk? Then they tried to charge me for newspapers I didn't get and that should have been free to IHG Priority Club members in any case.
o Staff are mostly not UK native - so the Japanese guest asking how to get to Stonehenge was having a real struggle until I stepped in to help

The rates aren't bad for the area, not cheap, but not the most expensive and the hotel is very new and clean. I'd stay here again - but only as a business stop over.

As other reviewers have said, the name T5 is misleading. It would be better named as Colnbrook, and as long as IHG continue to name it T5 it will continue to get middle and low rankings from those who assumed the hotel was very close to the airport.

I had checked where it was, and as I wanted it to stay near the office in Windsor after an evening in London, rather than do my 180 mile round commute the following morning, I was very happy with the location. The area around it is not the most salubrious, but I didn't notice any issues with yobs etc..

Arriving at 11:00 pm the car park was almost full, and this is probably the poorest aspect of the hotel - insufficient spaces. The check-in was quick, polite and efficient.

I was really amazed at the quality of the rooms for a HIE. They were better than the nearby Holiday Inn in Slough, very clean, spacious and well equipped for the price I was paying. The shower was excellent, the bed comfortable and the temperature about right - which was just as well, as I agree with another reviewer that the heating controls were in a dark corner by the door and virtually unusable as a consequence. There was also not much noise from the main road outside the window.

The breakfast was fine - fruit juice, (tinned?) fruit, breads, croissants, pain chocolat, hot food - and is included in the price. Again it's not a Michelin starred hotel that you're staying in.

Overall, I was very impressed and will use this again. It's not a five-star hotel, but a very good mid-market "business" hotel and if you come to it with that in my mind you will be very pleased.

This hotel is based in a run down area and it's at least 4km away from Heathrow Airport, it's not even next to or near Terminal 5 Heathrow and the area looks terrible surrounding this building with run down properties, I saw at least three hooded yobs standing outside this building looking into the cars in the car park. What is the most annoying situation is also when we tried to change our booking through the Holiday Inn reservations number, we spoke to and call centre agent who told us that they would change our reservation after being put through to and supervisor, the so called "supervisor" with an American accent refused to change our booking and just hung up the phone. To sum up the experience, poor service, bad location and high crime unsafe area, not advisable to stay here!

Prepaid for 6 nights. The hotel sells itself as 'Holiday Inn Express T5, Heathrow'. I thought it would be at Terminal 5 but it's a 15 pound taxi ride away if you don't make it to the last Hotel Hoppa bus for the night. On arrival at 3am, the evening staff (The 2 Indian men) weren't friendly at all and there was no offer to help with my two large suitcases to the room (I'm elderly). This hotel was formerly a 'Comfort Inn' chain and currently they're having a complete refurbishment, so make sure you ask for a room that's away from the jackhammer noise. Why is it ok to put jet-lagged travellers (catching up on sleep) in a room close to where the maintenance noise is?. When I asked to move away from the noise, they say they were short of 'quiet' rooms.. I did move eventually and the room was great. Internet charge is 10 pound a day extra. You'll need to present yourself at reception to get your voucher each time you want a top up - (awww, now I have to change out of my jammies). The day staff were pleasant, but it's noticable they're all still settling in themselves to the new hotel. The room bill which can be viewed on the room's tv doesn't show any details, only the total cost. Bed was comfy and the shower was beautiful. Rooms are brand new so it was very clean, lots of floor space, not much of a view but for an airport hotel it's ok. Airconditioner controls are positioned in a dark area of the room (yes, all the room lights were on) so you'll need a flashlight and a magnifying glass to see the details. It's too far out if you want to go to London for the day. 53 pounds for one person to get you there & back for the bus and train fares. Be sure to come back before the last train/bus, between 11-12pm or you'll pay an enormous amount in a taxi fare. No mini fridge in the room. Complimentary breakfast was great, but it's not advertised clearly that it's included in the rate. No room service but the restaurant opens for evening meals from 6pm - 10pm. Directly across the road is a service station that you can buy sandwiches and snacks. Even though the hotel address was mentioned on the website, it doesn't help anyone not knowing the area. For example, London Road, Terminal 5 sounds to me like it's actually on the airport premises. But it's not, it's still a 13 min bus ride away from the airport.

We spent one night here before a flight. We had booked 2 twin rooms but on arrival was told the rooms were doubles. We said a double would fine for the other family member but not be suitable for us and were told we would need to wait till a room could be made ready. The room we waited in was really nice, Double bed and sofa. On gaining entry to our room we found that a settee had been opened out for a second bed. Pleased we were only staying overnight as the room felt very cramped. Also we had no hot water in the bathroom (basin and shower). We rang down, staff did their best, and this was put right by next morning. Breakfast, I thought poor. The full english consisted of only scrambled eggs and bacon with hot drinks out of a machine.
