“Handy for the Airport”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Like many other reviewers, we stayed here before a morning flight from Manchester Airport.

The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Booking in and out was quick and easy.

The pub next door serves very good food and the portions are quite generous.

Overall an excellent place to stay when using the airport.

We stayed here the night before travelling to Tenerife having travelled down from Glasgow. Our experience was very good and I cannot fault it for our purposes. Very clean and comfortable room, good beds, great food in the pub next door which I believe is part of the hotel and very handy for Manchester Airport. Very good helpful and friendly staff too. I would certainly use this hotel again and would recommend it to anyone.

My brother and I I stayed last weekend for 2 nights as we were attending the 80th birthday party of a family friend. It was great value. Both rooms were large, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The bathrooms had an over the bath shower which was powerful enough. There was no problem with TV reception. The staff were helpful and friendly. The first morning at breakfast I asked for marmite. They had none but asked if I would be taking breakfast the following morning and promised to get some - which they did. Breakfast was "full english" or we could choose croissants, pastries, fruit, yoghurt, etc. For the price, this hotel really cannot be faulted.

We stayed a couple of nights in the Lodge, last weekend. I'm not sure why this place has such good reviews, perhaps the rest of Altrincham's hotel stock is underwhelming.
Good points:
- The pub itself is lively, popular, actually very busy when we were there.
- The food is fairly standard pub fare, decently done. Not gourmet, but we enjoyed our meals.
- the staff were friendly and helpful, despite being run off their feet most of the time.
- Our room (411) was a good size and clean.
- spacious car park
Less good:
- No lift
- The Lodge building is showing its age (1970s?); although they keep it clean, the window couldn't be shut once opened, and there were signs of need for maintenance - the shower curtain rail rusty, peeling paint here and there, and quite a dated style of decor.
- our mattress made strange loud twanging noises as we got in, though not once settled.
- The TV in the room was unwatchable; the aerial guy was there the next day trying to fix it, but apparently it's been a problem before
- They need more staff - they were barely coping with the amount of work they had to do (this was at a weekend).

Overall, fair value for money but not a place that I long to return to.

Room Tip: No lift, so avoid upstairs if you don't like lugging baggage.

I needed somewhere to stay close to Manchester and certain amenities but didn't want to stay "in town" Obviously i used Trip Advisor and following fellow contributors advice, I booked the Bulls Head. I already had local friends who raved about the food, especially the burgers so looked forward to an enjoyable stay.

Unfortunately time didn't permit me to enjoy the hospitality and atmosphere as much as would have liked, but i was greeted with a warm welcome, the room was comfortable and well equipped I have paid an awful lot more for less!! The Bulls Head was not a disappointment, the number of locals in there proved it was a good place to be. I have to stay in Manchester city centre on my next visit so it will be interesting to compare. Highly recommended.

The staff were particularly helpful, the room excellent, the breakfast in the nearby pub a bit quirky but not a problem All in all this location so close to Manchester airport proved to be an excellent choice....and at rates which certainly put airport hotels to shame. Certainly ticks all the proverbial boxes
