After finally receiving attention at the check in desk after a 10 min wait becasue there was no-one around, we entered our room to find a bundle of used tissues on the bed.
The room was very very small by PI standards and with paper peeling off the walls and very noisy street traffic, our stay didn't get off to the best of starts.
Our nightmare was compounded by the foul smelly water that kept bubbling up through the shower tray and the used sanatary items that were left by the previous guest in the bathroom bin.
Don't be fooled by the glamour of the word "bathroom", it was the only hotel I have ever stayed in where it would be possible to use the toilet, take a shower and brush your teeth in the sink, all at the same time.
The only positive outcome of our stay was the fact that PI honoured their money back guarantee if you don't have a good nights sleep. Funnily enough the receptionist seemed very experienced in the refund process...even on the 2nd time for me, after she had refunded someone elses card the 1st time around.

I stayed at the hotel for one week at the beginning of November. For approximatively 50 pounds a day I got full English breakfast and decent bedroom (103). The cleanliness was spotless, my towels were changed daily, welcome tray replenished. I went downstairs to the bar a few times and met a couple of interesting guys. The staff were superb, I got response to all my queries. The hotel manager, as pretty as some other staff members helped us herself with internet access. The only thing I didn't like were windows which I couldn't open initially. It was my first week in the UK since I left the country in September; this hotel helped me love it more again.

i am still visiting the gum clinic after sleeping in one of the beds! on serious note, the staff were extremely rude, and uncoherent of personal needs. My room was nothing short of a dump, and when i asked to be moved to another place of refuge, i was mocked and and simply offered another sachet of brown sugar! Definatley a place to send the ex!

The checkin was by somebody who didnt know the system, couldnt understand that I did not care for an 'Everything that you can eat' breakfast, I 'just' wanted a continental, and generally commented on every aspect and took an age to do the task.

The room was tired, old, badly needed a refresh, didnt have a shaver point, was at the front of the hotel on a main road with a half hearted attempt at sound insulation, could not sleep beyond 5am.

The non-smoking room was very smoky as it was above the bar, the quicker the smoking ban comes in the better.

The breakfast was dire, dirty cutlery and crockery, when I asked about the fruit salad I was told there was not enough fruit and was accused of picking a fight with the guy.

I gave up on getting hold of a manager to complain, they never seemed to be available or were not known to the staff.

Thed younger staff were pleasant but incapable, the older staff were capable but very unfriendly.

Altrincham is a nice place but badly served by hotels, this place gets by just because it exists, not because it does anything like a good job. I'm going to stay in central Manchester next time and get the Metro.
