“Comfortable Accommodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

Our one night's stay was thoroughly enjoyable. Pieter was a very friendly and helpful host. Ample parking, close to the centre of Ballater. Breakfast was first class and extensive.

The place feels more like an hotel than a guest house. You won't find the famous Scotish welcome there.

The good:
Rooms are quite comfy, nicely decorated.
Breakfast is really great with a lot of home-made items.

The bad:
The bathroom in the room needs serious renovation. It's not classic, it's just old and it doesn't really fit 4 stars hotel.
WiFi doesn't really work in some rooms.
A little bit over-priced.

The ugly:
I didn't like Pieter's (the host) attitude. There's a big difference between being direct and just being rude, espicially in the breakfast time. The guest should be treated with the outmost respect, and you don't always get that feeling there.

I stayed there for the 3rd time this september, 5 nights with a double used as a single.I was in the area to fish for salmon on the Dee. 4 other flyfishers also stayed there at the same time, while fishing the Aberdeenshire Dee. As before, the hosts (Pieter an Lea) were very helpful with booking restaurants and so on. It is a real bonus whene You stay for a few days, that it only takes a few minutes to walk to restaurants. And as before, the whole establishment was very clean and the breakfast is a real treat. Home-made bread, fresh muffins and home.made jam as mentioned by others. All the other 4 fishermen concluded that this was a place they would like to come back to.

One drawback is that the wi-fi works best at the back of the house, and not in the study. Someting that surely can be fixed, even if someone has to draw a wire through the house. But in total, one of the better guesthouses/B&B's that I have stayed in, and I would not hesitate to come back later.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for two nights, while travelling through Scotland.

The house is very nice and clean, as well as the rooms. Our room had the nice touch of having a en suite in the room, but down some stairs, which was really nice. We had a room facing to the side, and I can imagine the rooms facing to the front to be nicer.

The owner is very professional, and helpful to all our questions, but not more interested than that. So it is more non-personal than some of the other B&B's we visited on our travels.

The cleaning was very nice, and the breakfast very good, with a wide variety of choices. You should definately try the pancakes if you are there, as they are really nice.

The most negative aspect was the signal on the wifi. In our room it would come on and off depending on where in the room you are, and also if someone walked outside the room.

It is nice for bikers, as you can lock your bike in the garage.

All in all it is a very good B&B, but if you are seeking soimething more personal, then you should maybe pick somewhere else. It felt more like a hotel than a B&B.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the front , as they are usually very nice!

We liked it here so much we stayed for two nights. Lovely big room and good sized bathroom. Breakfasts by Lea were delicious best homemade muffins I have ever had. We drove past it because we hadn't booked anything in the area and when I asked if we could stay Pieter was very welcoming and accommodating, we could tell the people who ran this B and B cared about what they did. We couldn't fault the place, so clean, spick and span. I would recommend this area too it was lovely and close to Balmoral Castle and Glenfiddich Distillery both worth a visit.

One of the best b&bs we have stayed in. Great, big, comfortable room with an equally big, well equipped en-suite. Breakfast was fantastic, with a great choice of homemade goodies - traditional cooked breakfast, kippers, pancakes, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, homemade museli, breads and muffins.

Lea and Peter were particularly obliging - getting up extra early to cook us breakfast at 0700 before we went out for a days hillwalking.

All this for a bargain price as well, can't ask for more.
