“Very smart B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We stayed two nights in this very smart B&B in Carlisle, Wi-Fi throughout B & B TV/Freeview - lovely quiet en-suite room at back of the premises with power shower - tasty full cooked breakfast - reasonable rates 10/10

Room Tip: Room no-2 :-)

Small family run B&B.
It was a 20 minute walk from the centre, so very quiet and away from the bars and clubs
Comfy beds and a good hearty breakfast.
Would stay here again and will recommend this place to others

We stayed here for one night in May and were pleasantly surprised as we weren't expecting much since it was so cheap compared to the other b&b's we'd stayed in during our walk in the Lakes. The b&b is small but perfectly formed and the comfy beds were just what we needed after a long day of walking. The real benefit of a small b&b however is the attention which is given to the guests and Robert couldn't do enough to help us from hunting out take-away menus to even drying our wet clothes in the tumble dryer.
The breakfast was also by far the best we had during our trip.
Highly recommended and we will be staying again next year.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 4 and it was a great size with comfy beds.

Well-run, friendly and conveniently- situated. The place is cleverly laid out and pleasantly decorated, juggling family life and b&b business with aplomb. Everything done with great efficiency, and a good nourishing breakfast to round it off. Good to share one table with all guests, as this also helps a good atmosphere. The one thing I would suggest is fixing the toilet brush in the bathroom as the handle is prone to fall off. Otherwise top marks!

Cannot fault anything about this lovely guest house. The owners were nice and friendly and the rooms and ensuite were spotless. Tea and coffee making facilities, TV etc - a home-from-home. Flexible too with the breakfast (which was generous and delicious!). No hesitation in recommending Ashbourne Guest House to anyone thinking of staying in Carlisle, who wants good value but does not want to stay in the usual run-of-the-mill, bland budget hotels.

We stayed overnight mid-January en route from Worcester to NE Scotland.

Fantastic value, comfortable, spotless, and a fabulous breakfast.

Caron is very friendly and helpful, and is an excellent cook. No effort is spared in the general attention to detail.

The house is just 2 miles down the A6 from M6 jcn 42 (Carlisle South), and about a mile out of town. Just right for a 15-20 minute stroll to the Woodrow Wilson (Wetherspoons), for a meal and a pint before restful slumber.

We'll be back!

Being a local freelance writer from Carlisle i needed a few days away from the family home, solely for the self imposed solitude i needed to finish my work!!. After spending 3 previous night's at 2 other local B+B's (both of which ive also reviewed, one being fair and the other atrocious) i was told by another local person to try "Ashbourne Guest House",where i guess you could say i stumbled across the gem i'd been looking for,and only 1 mile away from my own home - double bonus!!
Greeted with a warm smile by the proprietor, caren, i stayed from the 13th till the 19th in a more than adequate and spotless single room, which i must admit more than pleasantly surprised me with such little extra's,as the new boxed sewing kits and personal hygiene products tucked nicely away under the sink, along with all the condiments and other staples you would expect from a professionally run guest house,at no extra charge.
As stated, spotlessly clean with a modern decor,oh and a fantastic breakfast!
Have not,had not and will not hesitate to recommend to anybody passing through or staying in Carlisle for a few days, the Ashbourne guest house.

Thankyou Caren for a quiet, peaceful time.
