“Excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2010

We stayed at Apple Blossom house for one night last weekend. We has room which could accomodate 3 people via a double bed in a private sleeping area and a single bed in the sitting area. The accomodation was brilliant!

The room has it's own kitchen area complete with microwave and fridge and a continental style breakfact was left in the fridge for us so we could eat at our own convenience. The woners are wonderfully frioendly but not at all intrusive. We were tired after a very busy day and they were perfecty happy for us to order pizza and eat in our room.

The decor was a little dated but the room was spotlessly clean and well appointed. We had our own private patio, complete with tables and chairs, and decking area. The bed was comfortsble and weslept very well.

I would recommend this bed and breakfast.

It has been several months since I last stayed in this hotel. I agree with the other 2 reviews here that the hotel is situated in a quiet location and the morning walk along the river is really refreshing. The couple who run the hotel was very helpful and friendly and offered help whenever needed. We had 2 rooms on the upper floor both of which were comfortable, even though of a smaller size and there wasn't much space to move around.
It is fairly near the town centre and without heavy luggage, the walk to the train station can be pretty easy too.
The breakfast room is also nicely decorated and the continental breakfast can fill up your stomach for the whole morning.
I would choose to stay here again if I go to Colchester next time.

This is a lovely B&B. We were made to feel very welcome. I think it's great value for money and we would definately stay here again. (My boyfriend has stayed in several places in colchester over the years and says this is the best place he has stayed in for value & location)

We stayed in the double room, with en-suite, all clean and comfortable with TV, tea, coffee, kettle, mini fridge,(I think it also had a hairdryer and iron available).
Price was amazingly good value (£46 per night for double room with en-suite including breakfast of cereal, toast, tea/coffee, selection of jams and cheeses provided).
Bed was really comfortable (one of those modern memory foam type matresses I think- I now want one for my own bed).
En-suite was only just big enough (but it does it's job) rest of room was fine and suited our needs for a base near to colchester town centre.
Within walking distance of Colchester High Street, near to river for riverside walk that leads to Castle park grounds, about 30 mins walk to railway station, and yet a quiet residential area (so glad we stayed here and not the George on High St as that seemed very noisy when we walked past, -yes it was a Friday & Sat but the B&B is only about 5-10 mins walk further away and was really quiet)

Any negatives? Well it's a private house so a bit on small side and probably not suitable for families or those needing disabled access, It's hard to tell what the other two room are like size wise etc, one definately has seperate bathroom. Breakfast would be intimate if all rooms were taken and you all wanted breakfast about same time, (we were the only guests so has breakfast table to our selves and plenty of room) The place is run by an older couple (?retired) and the house is quiet so I guess they don't expect guests to party/make lots of noise (alltough we had no complaints even though we returned in evening after midnight) but other than that I think it's a great B&B in an excellent location.

  • Liked — location and value for money
  • Disliked — small size of en-suite

Stayed for one night at this B & B with another couple as we attended a wedding at Colchester town hall.
From the outside the hotel looks like any other house on the street and you would be forgiven for thinking you were in the wrong place. Were given a warm greeting though by the proprietors on arriving and shown to our rooms. The hotel only has three rooms altogether.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, with one having an en-suite and the other wash and toilet facilities. It felt like stepping back into 1983 with the decor and bed covers, but the rooms were all well maintained and not a piece out of place.
The hotel is very conveinent for Cochester Town centre wich took less than fifteen minutes by foot. Has off road parking and is very well priced for the area at £46 a ROOM b & b.
The couple running the show were very nice and prepared a lovely breakfast in the moring and were in no rush for us to leave. They had no fuss about what time we came in and made us welcome.
The heating was noisy in the night and the lay out of the hotel made it a little too cosy, but it was unique and friendly enough. The decor throughout was very busy but again not a peice out of place.
Unique if little odd stay but great if having a night in Colchester. can walk home and enjoy the sights.
