over the past 3 years I have travelled to Sheffield frequently and stayed at this hotel. The staff are always friendly and approachable. I always book a double room and inspect the cleanliness of the bathroom and I can honestly say they are always cleaned to a very high standard, the rooms are spacious and I get a great nights sleep.

Easily accessed from the motorway. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very clean and comfortable rooms. The hotel was busy and checking out did take a while (an alternative option here would be good) Will I visit again? Yes I will.

Stayed 2 nights on the Chatsworth deal as a returning Sheffielder.Perfectly situated with easy access to the M1 and Meadowhall with adequate parking. Clean spacious room with comfy bed, good shower [spotless bathroom with large cubicle] and large soft towels. Staff were professional + helpful with typical northern friendliness + warmth. Dining area light + airy but could do with having the carpet cleaned/changed. Despite the evening 3 course 'set menu' having only 3 choices per course it was varied, well cooked + tasty. The drinks menu was available for the asking as was a jug of iced water; bar prices were as for any hotel. Breakfast was a bit more hit&miss ~ one of our mornings clashed with a conference so the staff were clearly under pressure to clear tables etc.but taking a slightly later breakfast the following day helped. Buffet style breakfast was adequate for our needs and food was regularly topped up when levels were low. Again on request, a pot of coffee was brought to the table as was hot milk. Clientel were mixed so the Aston ticks many boxes. Would recommend and will certainly stay there again when travelling to South Yorkshire or beyond ~ for anyone not having been to Chatsworth the deal is definitely well worth taking advantage of.

I thought we were going somewhere special judging by the many "excellent revues". However, the hotel is mainly a business hotel, handily positioned just off Junction 33 of the M1. On arrival our room was not ready, and we were asked to wait in the foyer. The wrong room was given, but hastily remedied. Bottled water was brought later, but only on the first day.
The staff, although always helpful and friendly, as mentioned by others, seemed somewhat confused about what package we were on. Ours was a "Chatsworth" Package but on a voucher per day system, Therefore there was some confusion on the part of the restaurant staff as to whether we paid for dinner on the second night.
On top of this, the food was disappointing overall. I had to ask for a vegetable to go with my chop and mash which otherwise was nice. My husband's curry however lacked spice and colour. The evening previously was similar, with nice sea bass, but a goulash lacking in spice despite good quality beef. Dinner was also uncomfortable due to weird audience noise from T.V. In adjacent open lounge. Breakfast was basic, and scrambled eggs had to be ordered, still tasting like they were pre-cooked. We didn't find it convenient for Chatsworth, and it is a good 40 minute drive rather than 20. Having said this, the hotel itself is modern with easy parking, easy to find. The superior room for which we were charged £20 extra per night, plus £10 per night for weekend access, was spacious, light, and noise free. The king size bed was extremely comfortable, and the bathroom with bath stylishly equipped and modern. Large, flat screen t.v., and desk with work lamp. As mentioned, this is a business hotel foremost, and was, in my opinion, lacking in feminine requirements. As I am 5'2" I had to stand on the loo to put the towel on the heated rail. The desk mirror was too high when sitting and not enough light for makeup purposes. I cannot stand for long due to osteoarthritis, to enable using the bathroom mirror. When shown our room, we were told the second bath towel was a spare - was only one of us expected to shower? Another requirement lacking for me was a good reading light in bed. Also, no bedside drawer for my 2 pairs of specs, watch, magazine, tissues, medicines, notepad etc. need top for water, alarm clock and lamp. A socket would be good near the bed to plug in mobile phone, iPad or laptop on which to watch DVD or film when can't sleep (with earphones). All in all, I was pleased to return home. Please note that I am a seasoned traveller, lived in 3 countries, 26 addresses, and stayed and eaten in places as diverse as African kitchens on charcoal burners to The Oxo Tower, London, and not expecting anything except to enjoy the food.

Andrea H, General Manager at Mercure Sheffield Parkway, responded to this review, April 28, 2014
Dear Bi0nicAnn,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Tripadvisor;

It is our aim to ensure that all our guests leave the hotel happy regardless of the reason for their visit and I apologise that we did not live up to your expectations.
As you say the hotel usually receives excellent reviews especially in relation to the value for money the Chatsworth package offers.

I have passed your comments to our Head Chef for use when reviewing the menus.

Kind regards

Andrea Hippsley

We stayed here as a last minute getaway back in January. Clean and comfortable room with friendly and professional staff. We requested a 'quiet' room due to medical issues and this was granted without any hassle. The bathroom was a reasonable size and the shower was big enough for two ppl easy let alone one. Breakfast was nice and more than enough choice. There was also free parking and wifi.
