5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2012

Thank you-Thank you-Thank you.
What a wonderful weekend we all had at the Hangover party night,twenty-five of us were there from Milton Keynes,Nottingham,Lincoln,Rotherham and Sheffield celebrating my wifes 70th birthday, everything went so perfectly, we stayed the night and even had a few hours together on the Sunday. The staff you have were perfect nothing was too much trouble,i would personally like to thank all the staff:- Waiters, Bar-Staff,Reception,Disco,Chefs, everyone who made our weekend a complete success, it was fabulous they all worked so very hard. WE WLL BE BACK. Yours Truly Mr G J Thorpe.

Room Tip: Overlooking The College and Grounds.

Thank you for your excellent review on the hotel following your stay with us on 7th January 2012. The event was certainly very popular; amazing really considering the amount of food and drink consumed over the Christmas period! I've passed on your fantastic comments to all departments and we look forward to seeing you back at the hotel sooner rather than later.

Myself and my husband stayed one night at the Carlton Park Hotel as we were attending a concert at Sheffield Arena. There is a link on the Arena's website to local hotels, and this one offered a good deal of £59 a night for a double room, including full english breakfast, a bottle of wine on arrival in the room and a choice of sandwich upon your return to the hotel after the concert. On arrival at the hotel it was very well presented, lovely dining area, two large, well appointed function rooms, a gym and a sauna and also swimming pool. The gym, sauna and swimming pool are available for use free of charge to guests. The room itself was very nice, tastefully decorated, flat screen tv, free WI-FI ( they give you a code for usage), trouser press and large wardrobe with plenty of hangers. Plenty of information in the room regarding local attractions ect. We were pleased as we were able to book a smoking room, something of a rarity nowadays. Free toilitries in the bathroom, including his and hers face cloths. Extra pillows provided in the room and also ectra blanket, should these be required. The hospitality tray was a step up from the usual tea and coffee, as it included Twinings Breakfast Tea, Earl Grey and also Caburys hot chocolate. The room rate included a bottle of wine, however on entering the room the wine was stood in a large bucket of water ( which was once ice) and was not really chilled, so i rekoned they must have placed it there much earlier in the day, not a big issue, but i would personally have prefered to have it waiting for me in a bucket of ice on return from the gig. The sandwiches myself and husband had were delicious, i opted for the roast beef and horse radish, husband went for roast ham and mustard...both arrived beautifully presented in bloomed bread with a nice side salad. On viewing the hotel menu which was in the room, the price for one sandwich was nearly £5, so the room rate of £59 for a double room with wine, full english breakfast each and the sandwich each was very, very good value indeed. Breakfast the next morning was ample, a choice of fresh orange juice, tea, coffee, cereals, yogurts, toast and all the cooked items you would expect from a full english. There is a self serve operation in place so when we arrived at 8.15, there was a huge queue and the staff didnt seem able to cope as they kept running out of all the items on the servery, loads of people waiting for toast, fried eggs ect. " help yourself" tea and coffee on a seperate table were unfortunately luke warm, and there was no sweetener, only sugar ( a problem for me as im diabetic, fortunately i always carry my own as i find many places do not provide sweetener). When we did eventually find a table to sit at ( not enough tables for the amount of guests) and eat our breakfast, it was delicious, lovely bacon, and magnificent thick sausage, really meaty and of good quality. To sum up, service not brilliant, but the standard of breakfast was superb. This would have been a brilliant stay, fab breakfast, lovely sandwich snack, bottle of wine, nice room, swimming pool, sauna all for a really bargain price......had it not been for the most important factor....the bed. Both myself and husband had a terrible night's sleep, maybe 2/3 hours at the most. The bed was far to short for my husband who is 6' 1.....mattress was ROCK HARD. Pillows like a slab of concrete. Really terrible, truely awful most uncomfortable night's sleep i have ever had in a hotel ( and iv stayed in many a Travelodge!). The next morning we checked out at 6.30am, having spent most of the night awake, i just could not wait to get home, we were both so tired. If your the type of person who could fall asleep on a knife edge, then this is the place for you!. All in all, every aspect was good, apart from the bed, and for me that is the most important thing, a comfortable night's sleep. Carlton Park Hotel...what a shame.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back of the hotel, very quiet as this hotel is on a main road

Thank you for your candid comments relating to your stay with us earlier this month. I'm pleased that you found time to praise the positive aspects of your stay, despite the obvious discomfort experienced from the mattress. We do try to cater for the majority of people's preference when it comes to firmness of the mattress; however, you must appreciate that one person's 'rock hard' is another person's 'firm'. Please accept our apologies for the wine not being chilled upon your return to the hotel; it is sometimes difficult to estimate the time that guests are due to return from Sheffield Arena. This is obviously a policy which we need to review. I would like to apologise for your experience of our service at breakfast time: on investigation it appears that most of our residents came down at the same time for breakfast, which is unusual; however, this is not to excuse the poor service you received. I hope that your experience will not discourage you from booking with us again in the future.

A very pleasant stay in a very good hotel. The food and service are excellent, and the staff cheerful and helpful. Carlton Park is situated close to M1 & M18 junctions.

I've stayed in the Carlton park a few times over the years and it has definitely improved since they refurbished it.

Clean, comfortable and reasonably priced.

Breakfast is good and the gym and swimming pool are a nice bonus. The bar and restaurant meals are good and reasonably priced for a hotel.

on sunday 4th december 14 family members attended santas sunday lunch as we had done for the last 8 years . This year was not so good the food was ok but its much better when the food is brought and placed on the table instead of waiter service . The young waiter managed to upset 4 family members first he dropped some of the dish down a young mans shirt and into his drink them went on to spill cauliflower juices onto my young daughter then half the tray of cauliflower went all over my mother onto my jane norman handbag full of xmas cards . we did tell the manager who said he would pay any dry cleaning bills , but these incidents spoil our day a little . Also my husband had roast potato dropped on his knee . The hotel is nice and patsy fun show is fun for the children . Not sure if we will be back next christmas

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel following your recent visit for Santa's Sunday Lunch. I'm sorry that your experience wasn't up to the standard of previous years and would like the opportunity to discuss your comments further. We work hard to ensure that our loyal customers remain satisfied year after year, and it is of concern to me that you had issues with the service this year. I look forward to discussing the matter with you and hopefully, convincing you to attend next year's event as you have done for the last eight years. Please contact me at the hotel at your earliest convenience.

I visited this hotel on Business yesterday. My lunch of Steak and Ale pie with chips was to die for, you must try this in the bar if you visit.
The service was friendly and very good even though they were very busy all day with loads of other people turning up for Christmas lunches and parties.
Our meeting room was a good size, all facilities were there and working and the buffet was a good selection of hot food and sandwiches. Plenty was served although we would have liked some cake or fruit as a pud!
If you do go here try the real ales, I had a Christmas special and it was very nice - and well kept.
Overall a good experience, I hope to return.

Thank you so much for your excellent review of the hotel. Steak and Ale Pie with a pint of real ale to wash it down with is certainly an excellent choice now the weather has turned colder - I'm glad that you enjoyed it so much! It's nice to get a review from a conference delegate; and nice to know that your experience was a pleasant one . We all look forward to welcoming you back to the Carlton Park in the near future.
