“Decent Skegness Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Stayed here for a stock car racing meeting at Skegness Stadium last year. Hotel was fine, parking on the other hand is a nightmare, but then again I think it is at any of these sea front hotels. Stayed one night, good nights sleep, would stay here again. Good value, good breakfast! Thanks!

Two of us had bed and breakfast on 13/7/13.

The hotel is located on the sea front opposite the pier. It was easy to find but parking was a bit more of a challenge, having to drive around the nearby streets to find a space. There is a pay and display car park nearby which we were going to use as a last resort. It would appear to be a good location near the beach and arcades, and handy for McDonalds just opposite, there are numerous pubs and restaurants within a short walk. However we were in Skegness for our annual trip to the stock car stadium a short drive away so didn't really sample the town itself.

A twin room had been booked online and we checked in about 4pm. We were given a room key and a front door key in case we were late. The room was on the second floor along a narrow corridor, there is a lift. The room itself was small but clean and comfortable, with 2 single beds, an en-suite bathroom with a small shower, 2 large towels and 2 face towels, tea making facilities and a small plasma TV. I did a search on my phone for wi-fi and did find it but I needed a pass word, as this was in the wee small hours I didn't bother. The only down side to the room was very thin walls with very little sound insulation. We were lucky having quiet neighbours except when they had a loud discussion at 7am.

The hotel seems to have a busy cabaret in the bar with shows on several nights a week, although when we returned about midnight we had just missed a Tom Jones tribute act.

In the morning we had a self serve hot buffet breakfast with friendly staff on hand to guide us.

To sum up the Grosvenor Hotel I would say it is well located for all that Skegness provides, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff are friendly. We would stay again.

I stayed her with my girlfriend on a Sunday night. We didn't really go into this with any real expectations but were quite impressed with the hotel, considering we only paid £45 for a room.

LOCATION:

We'll start with the location, as you will probably be aware it is bang, smack in the middle of the action! Opposite the pier. Very convenient, however there is no dedicated parking and you will do well to find a space on a busy day, though there is plenty of free parking in the surrounding streets after driving around for a little while.

HOTEL:

The hotel is not what you would consider 'modern sophistication', but it doesn't ever pretend to be. It is dated but has character and everywhere is perfectly clean and acceptable. The hotel consist of rooms, a large bar with a small amount of outside space and a ballroom (we did not visit this but they do regular shows here).

The room itself was on the second floor in a corner position with a view of the pier. It is a reasonable size and importantly, it's clean. It has a good size en-suite, but the shower though acceptable, is not the best; It is small, not particularly powerful and not very 'comfortable'. I'm 5.8ish and quite slim, yet I felt I was too big for the shower, it's low and not spacious.

It was quite noisy with the windows open, but this should be expected. The walls are thin so any quite loud noises and movements can be heard, but can't see this being too much of a problem unless you get unruly neighbours!

In the room there is a wardrobe, 2 bedside tables with storage and a separate set of draws. Very good storage space. The bed was soft and clean. The hotel provided 2 large towels and a hand towel, they also provide coffee and tea facilities and sachets for no charge and in the bathroom you'll find shampoo (no conditioner), soap and shower gel. There is a hair dryer in the room. There is an old TV with poor reception, but you don't go away to watch TV for any prolonged period of time! Didn't need an iron so no idea about this! For £45, it's not going to be perfect, but I would say good value for money.

SUMMARY:

Very good value for money. Don't expect luxury and I'm sure you'll be at least satisfied! We were greeted by a male who we assume was the owner (forgot his name, sorry!), he was very friendly and I'm sure would have been willing to help should we have required anything. FYI, checkout was 11am. We didn't try the breakfast.

Did we enjoy our stay? Yes. Would we go again? Yes. Would we recommend to friends, family and strangers?! Yes. Therefore, for 45 squid, what more can we ask for?!

My family booked five rooms at the hotel for a long weekend. Overall we had a very pleasant stay. The hotel is clean, comfortable and has friendly, hard working staff. Most of our rooms were on the second floor, with excellent sea/Pier views. In terms of being centrally located, it's the best hotel in Skegness... literally across the road from the Pier.

The positives

- Excellent location.
- Friendly staff.
- The rooms were basic (which is usually the case in Skegness) but they were comfortable. Nice soft bedding and towels.
- It has a lovely, huge dining room/bar
- Good selection of food including kids meals (except for Sundays when it's just a carvery all day)
- It's a very laid back hotel suitable for everyone. We've stayed at other sea front hotels in Skegness which are largely frequented by older people who aren't always pleased to have young children around them.
- It has a lift if you don't fancy walking up to the rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors (Note: There are a few steps up to it).
- There are cabaret acts on certain dates throughout the year (dates are on their website). The Celine Dion act was very good.

The not so positives

- No designated parking, though we managed to get street parking and left our car there all weekend
- It got noisy at night, but that's the same for all seaview rooms in central Skegness.
- The rooms are very basic... The bathrooms could do with an upgrade.
- The beds are very soft... We prefer a hard bed, but we got used to it after the first night!
- Twice during our stay the power went off in the corridors and it was pitch black.
- No fruit at breakfast.

We stayed at this hotel for the weekend of the 28/6/13. The hotel is very conveniently located in Skegness. It faces the pier. On our first night there, a Celine Dion tribute act was performing. The lady was very good and sounded so like her.
The rooms were nice and roomy with quality toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities.
We took our Dog with us and the hotel staff love dogs, the dog was allowed everywhere in the hotel. They provided water there too.
The buffet was lovely, you help yourself to it, the staff brought tea and coffee to the table. There was a good range to eat, bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, tomatoes, mushrooms, black pudding, beans plus cereal. There was a toaster to help yourself.
We enjoyed a carvery on one night. There was a choice of turkey and beef, both lovely quality. There was boiled new potatoes, roast potatoes, leak and cheese bake, carrots and cabbage. They could do with making stuffing and Yorkshire puddings though.
The bar food was also nice, I had scampi and chips, which were excellent.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
There is no car park and directly outside the hotel is restricted parking. You have to park further along the road.
The only downside is that the hotel does not cater for disabled people. There is a lift but you have to walk up 3 steps to get to it and the lift is very small. The toilets are very low down with no grab rail, plus the shower cubicle is small without a grab rail too.
Due to being so close to all the pubs, there is some noise when people are drunk whilst out.
All in all we had a fabulous time, we would go again and definitely recommend this hotel.

My husband and stayed at the Grosvenor for 1 night in early May 2013. We were in room 201, and I was very shocked at how basic the room was, but it was clean, and as we were there for only 1 night we decided it would do. After an unsettled nights sleep, because the bed was so uncomfortable, I went to use the so called shower. It was nothing but a trickle of cold water.
We then went down for breakfast only to be told that we were not booked in for breakfast. I have emailed the hotel to ask for a refund for the breakfast which we had paid, but have had no reply!!

Visited this hotel mid-2012 and agreed a booking, with the Manager, to take all the rooms and use the ballroom for a National 3 day event in 2015 on behalf of The Old Time Dance Society. Booked well in advance to ensure the venue. Contacted the Hotel in November 2012 to confirm with the Hotel that the committee had agreed the booking. I started to become nervous when I could not get any response from the hotel by email or phone, eventually received an email at the beginning of February 2013 stating that the owner had booked another event following on from the three days we had booked do we could not hold our event there as they needed our dates to set up.
