“Gone massively down hill”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013 via mobile

Being local to Taunton, my friends and I have frequented Miriam's many times over the years, and are normally happy with both the food and the service. We tend to go to the more contempory Indians now but fancied a change. How we regretted our decision.

Despite booking our table in advance, we had to stand with the people waiting for takeaways for a good 20 minutes. After a long day, this wasnt a great start to our evening. Finally relieved to be seated, we requested a round of drinks, nothing fancy, just some lagers. Yet it took another 15 minutes and 2 more requests before we had the drinks on our table!

We know what we wish to order these days, and were keen to submit our orders, but after the classic poppadoms had been put on the table, staff were a hard thing to come by. It is worth noting that the restaurant was not fully booked, probably about 2/3 full so one would think that they were used to serving the number of people in the restaurant.

It took a further 30 minutes before our order was taken, and another 30 minutes for our food to arrive. In all our food was served almost an hour and a half after the booking time for our table. Food, was pretty standard, especially compared to other modern Indians now in the area. Utterly disappointed, more so for them that we will be giving the place a wide berth for a while...

I think the main problem with Miriam is that they are totally preoccupied with takeaway orders, and often find the restaurant orders a pain. We very much felt this way at least. The staff seemed very grumpy, and despite our best efforts found it impossible to get a smile from any of them!

“Just O.K.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

We visited this restaurant last week. It boasts a 'Curry House of the year award' and we thought we would give it a try.
It is a small restaurant just by the multi-level car park in Taunton.
We were a large group and were seated in the first of their two eating areas. This is by the reception. It was dimly lit and shabbily furnished. There did not seem to be much of an atmosphere. We noticed that the restaurant did a lot of take away's, with the staff walking through with bags of food and that the door from the street was constantly open and closing for people coming in to collect their food. So it was quite noisy.
The service was slow and the waiters were not very cheerful or friendly. We tried to get attention to order more drinks whilst we waited for the two starters ordered but the staff seemed more keen on serving the take away customers.
The food for the main course was average to say the least. I'm not sure what they got their award for but it wouldn't have been for presentation or customer service. We decided not to bother with desserts or coffee!
It is not a restaurant I would recommend to anyone.

“Utter rubbish.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

Worst indian I have had. Salty poppadums, food tasted unauthentic, and the garlic naan was a normal naan with a huge dollop of garlic butter in the middle and folded in half. Only plus side was it was fast - funny that! Disappointing.

“One thing I dislike is bad service....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

....and when someone fails to apologize for sending the wrong food (a meat dish is no good to a vegetarian, laughs and says theres nothing he can do now, then it puts me off a restaurant. Other equally good restaurants in town with better service.

“Good food. Rude staff......”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Had a takeaway several times and always found the food exellent......Hot & fresh with good size portions............They have one big problem in there....STAFF.......when you phone to order you are told 30 mins approx.......Only once was it ready in this time scale.....the last one took 1hr 40!!..........This meant eating at 10.pm......Not good when you are type 1 diabetic and are sat in the car with no food......On complaining there was no apology and nothing free to make up for their delay....Staff ignore you and stand around offering no information about your takeaway until you get restless and ask for a refund! The meal was then brought out out within 5 mins.....
