Being local to Taunton, my friends and I have frequented Miriam's many times over the years, and are normally happy with both the food and the service. We tend to go to the more contempory Indians now but fancied a change. How we regretted our decision.
Despite booking our table in advance, we had to stand with the people waiting for takeaways for a good 20 minutes. After a long day, this wasnt a great start to our evening. Finally relieved to be seated, we requested a round of drinks, nothing fancy, just some lagers. Yet it took another 15 minutes and 2 more requests before we had the drinks on our table!
We know what we wish to order these days, and were keen to submit our orders, but after the classic poppadoms had been put on the table, staff were a hard thing to come by. It is worth noting that the restaurant was not fully booked, probably about 2/3 full so one would think that they were used to serving the number of people in the restaurant.
It took a further 30 minutes before our order was taken, and another 30 minutes for our food to arrive. In all our food was served almost an hour and a half after the booking time for our table. Food, was pretty standard, especially compared to other modern Indians now in the area. Utterly disappointed, more so for them that we will be giving the place a wide berth for a while...
I think the main problem with Miriam is that they are totally preoccupied with takeaway orders, and often find the restaurant orders a pain. We very much felt this way at least. The staff seemed very grumpy, and despite our best efforts found it impossible to get a smile from any of them!
