“An average hotel with stunning grounds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

Stayed for a two night break late Aug the hotel is stunning with fantastic views and grounds but thats where the good points end the rest of the hotel is average and almost dull. The staff were ok but nothing more and the menu was very drool and didn't flow at all. A real shame because it could be something great.

took my mother for a half spa day and was very disappointed. We don't see much of each and the idea was that we had a treatment at the same time and then spent a couple of hours chatting and relaxing. Unfortunately the Mount had other ideas. As soon as we arrived we were told they had staffing problems and one of us had a treatment immediately and the other would follow straight after - so no chance for us to spend time together. Whilst they were clearly short of staff in the spa, there were 3 women on the reception - doing v little. We were given a locker and then left to find our robe, slippers and towel. The only thing in my locker was an empty plaster bag, and my mum only found a robe. We finally found a member of staff and were given towels and I was given a robe - with no belt/tie. When we asked for slippers, we were told they didn't have any. So much for the "luxurious robes and slippers" they promise in their blurb! Neither of us was shown into or around the pool/spa area and neither of us was offered a drink. The treatment itself was quite good, although not outstanding and the therapist was doing her best under obviously stressful conditions. Also, the only place to sit and relax (outside of the jacuzzi) is outside, so make sure you go on a warm/sunny day. Luckily for us it was, however, as we finally sat down together to catch up, the therapist started putting the chairs away - a not-so-subtle hint that it was time to go! The hotel itself looks very elegant and the setting is beautiful, but frankly during our afternoon there we felt in the way!

We received a half day Spa treatment package as a gift - which included a facial and head and back massage together with full use of all the Spa facilities. The treatments and Spa were exceptionally good and very relaxing. The Regency Hotel is set in beautiful grounds and boasts tasteful decor. We also enjoyed a very nice lunch on the terrace. Overall we had a delightful day at this Hotel. The package was a delightful gift to receive and the service throughout the Hotel was excellent.

I booked a late break with Secrete Escapes 24 hours before for our anniversary and what a fab place to go. The Hotel was amazing the food was excellent and the service was faultless, I have never felt so spoilt and it was so relaxing, We would love to go again. I know we payed a reduced rate but looking at their Christmas and New Year deals I would not hesitate to go as I feel you would get great value for money.

To the staff of the hotel Thank you for making our 20th Anniversary something to remember.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent although it is used as a wedding venue so I would imagine there is some inte...

My mother and I decided to take a short break to The Mount Somerset Hotel for 2 nights, booked through Secret Escapes, and were on the whole very pleased with the hotel. The room we had (West Hatch) was in the new part of the hotel; a beautiful room and bathroom and very clean and tidy. The actual hotel itself is in a wonderful setting, but it is slightly run down and could do with a little more attention. The pricing within the hotel regarding food and drink needs re-evaluating as whilst bottles of wine were fairy priced (averaging £22-£33) the cost for two teas and two scones was £17, an absolutely astronomical price !!!
The food in the restaurant, although expensive, was great and we would recommend eating there for sure.
The staff were mostly friendly, but a little amateur. Some could crack a smile here or there !

As for the spa, the treatments we had were great (again, extortionately over priced, but booked through secret escapes we managed to get 15% off!), but it needs a renovation, which thankfully they are starting to do!
Overall, a lovely stay, but the finer details need looking at to make the high pricing worth the money!

Room Tip: Go for a room in the new wing if you aren't staying in a suite!!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

We needed a last minute stopover on the way back from Devon during the August Bank Holiday weekend - the choice was limited as we had 2 small dogs to accomodate as well.

I wouod not have chosen The Mount as it is only rated 3 stars and unfortunately, I am a hotel snob - The reason I chose here was the photo's - They made the hotel look far more superior than the ratings!

I need not have been concerned - This hotel rates alongside the best 5 star hotels I have stayed in .

Booking - I could see from the website they only had 1 room left - A premier suite but did not want to book online as needed to ensure the dogs were not a problem for them.
From my initial phonecall they were very helpfull and informative and I made the reservation by telephone. I had an email confirmation within a couple of hours confirming everything.

My Son then decided he wanted a lift with us - (he is not a child) - I called the hotel to see if they had another room but the hotel was fully booked - They were so helpful and agreed they would accomodate him in the Suite - Their not a problem attitude was so refreshing.

Arrival - The drive up the lane takes you to the front of this lovely imposing house - The grounds are lovely and well maintained and plenty of car parking available.

Reception - very welcoming and efficient - shown straight to our room.

Room - Well what can I stay - STUNNING - The Durston Suite - Large and beautifully furnished - extra large sofa and a bathroom bigger than a lot of lounges. The roll top bath positioned so you can gaze out over the countryside - so relaxing - The room deserved 5 stars without question.
Tea/Coffee making facilities. water. cookies. Full toiletries in the bathroom together with fluffy robes and slippers, hairdryer etc.

Afternoon Tea - We sat on the terrace and consumed the best afternoon tea ever - the scones were melt in the mouth!! It was plentiful and delicious - Highly recommended

Spa - All refurbished and my husband said his 75 min massage was good.

Dinner - The food rates alongside top London restaurants at a fraction of the price -
We all had different dishes and each course was so tasty and well presented - A big compliment to the chef and the hard working waitresses.

The room was very peacefull and we could not hear any noise from other rooms

Breakfast - Good selection of cereals, fruit pastries etc The cooked menu is extensive and the English Breakfast was cooked well.

I highly recommed a stay here - you will not be disapointed and they must apply for a better rating - Deserve 5 stars all day long!!!!!! Well done to all the staff, you should all be proud to work in such a wonderful hotel and all of you a a big credit to the hotel.

Thankyou

Room Tip: The premier suite is totally worth the extra

We used the Garden Room at Mount Somerset for a surprise Golden Wedding Anniversary for my wife's Aunt and Uncle. Customer service was excellent at every stage from our initial request to management on the day. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was locally sourced, beautifully cooked and presented and was also very good value. The atmosphereon the day (a Sunday) was relaxed but formal where appropriate. We would heartily recommend Mount Somerset to anybody, especially if looking for a veue for a wedding breakfast or special family event.
