“Lovely country house hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2012

I stayed in room 6, lovely comfy bed, tv, coffee making, nice decor and beautiful old funiture. The decor in the hotel is of the more is more type, but it is lovely old funiture in huge rooms, huge fireplaces and a roaring fire in the lounge (great on a cold winter night). The evening meal was home cooked, not exactly cordon blue, but nice and good portions (meal and wine was £20.00) full english breakfast was offered in the morning.
I especially loved the bonkers (eglectic) collection of paintings and ornaments, and chandelliers
The host was friendly in a reserved english way

Room Tip: room 6 overlooks the road and the pub opposite but very little noise

Being ideally located in close proximity to Taunton Deane Crematorium, this is the perfect place to hold your wake afterwards. They provided an excellent finger buffet selection of both hot and cold nibbles, along with a choice of wine, fruit juice and tea and coffee.

The service was good but not intrusive and was done in such a way that little of the food would go to waste.

The room was tastefully decorated and the whole place had a welcoming ambience. If you're in the unfortunate position of holding an event like this, then this is the place to do so. I'm sure it's also a good place for other events as well.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2011

I visited this hotel with my family and extended family for a private function to celebrate a birthday at the beginning of October.

The hotel is very comfortable and the hosts very pleasant and inviting and also very helpful. The rooms are comfortable and have all you need including tea and coffee making facilities.

The hotel is very quirky and has a lovely feel to it but I must comment on the art. I wouldn't display such images of naked people especially when young children are staying here and ask questions but then I don't appreciate good art and some people won't find this offensive.

The breakfast is gorgeous and the owner will make anything on request. The meal before was also extremely good and plentiful.

All in all, a very good hotel with lovely food and great hosts and would stay here again.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2011

I Stayed for 1 night in August while visiting family. This is a perfectly adequate hotel. Rooms are a good size and despite what many people have said we found the owner very pleasant. The decor was not to my personal taste. It was a bit over the top for me and as a result the rooms were too 'busy'. Having said that the bed was comfortable and at a similar price to the nearby Premier Inn, it represents decent value.

Had the opportunity to return to" This Great Hotel", had to be is Somerset on Business, phoned at the last minute, and got the last room, as usual the owners and staff treat you with respect and great humor. They even remembered that, I like fresh milk with my tea/coffee and it was brought to the room, as soon as I had settled in(hows that for service) brilliant!!!!! Once again I had dinner, and was not disappointed, the lady is outstanding and her skills as a chef, would put these so called TV chefs to shame, I also. over heard a conversation, where a local was asking her, could she produce a 100 scones for the local cricket team as they were having some big match on.Apparently the owners scones are legendery. Anyway, If you want a great atmosphere, spotlessly clean rooms. a great nights sleep this is where you have to stay, when visiting Somerset.

A great welcome by owner and her 3 Dandy Dinmont dogs!
Rooms comfortable and as requested appointed close to each other (family of 4).
We were only staying one night to break up the journey to Cornwall on this occasion but, thanks to good directions from the owner, we managed to explore the locality and the wonderful walks by the river.
Breakfast was lovely - poached eggs were perfectly cooked and mushrooms fried in butter were heaven!

As a Business Traveller its very hard to please me..... I foudf the Meryan House through a recommendation, and I owe this person a drink, I am not a great writer of reviews or a believer of what people say,( most individuals who give negative reviews are usually cowards) and have not said a word to the staff or owners, on their departure...
I just loved this Hotel, with works of art and paintings adorning the hotel throughout, I am told everything has a story, and I heard some of them, very funny indeed. Anyway, the place is spotless, my room had everything I wanted, from an IPOD player & Charger TO FREE wifi, now, what you must try, is the food, its to die for, but I am told its only avalable Monday to Thrusday, because of functions at the weekend, The lady of the house is adorable, full of charm and a genuine desire to make sure her guests, have had a pleasant stay. I will not be back here for another month, but have pre-booked my room to make sure I can get in.While I was there, a couple arrived complaining they could not read the sign because a flower was obscuring the sign (how petty is that) the owner gave them a large whisky while the offending flower was removed, very classy indeed, I suppose thats why I dont own a Hotel, some people have no class these days. anyway, once again dont miss out on the Meryan a great place to stay.
