“Luxury in a little Quantock village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2012

The Old Bakery is an extremely comfortable cottage with everything you could possibly want. I was on my own with my dog so only used one bathroom. However the fact that there are two bathrooms as well as two bedrooms would make it ideal for 2-4 people. The welcome is genuinely warm as was the cottage, especially appreciated as I was there the weekend of all the rain and floods!! The Old Bakery has a lovely little private patio and also a small garden and is ideally situated for walking on the Quantocks and visiting Exmoor.
Absolutely loved it and will definately return

We have just spent a week at Flora's Barn, Town End and we couldn't fault it at all. Wonderfully equipped, warm and welcoming and one of the best we have ever stayed in. The position at the base of the Quantocks is superb, and a stone's throw away from the pub. It rained every day but didn't make one iota of difference overall to the holiday - we were snug and dry in a wonderful environment

Flora's Barn is superb accommodation and second to none that I have ever experienced. On arrival we were met by Bruce who provided us with a lovely cream tea. On settling ourselves in we found that we had every need and facility catered for with Tea, Coffee, fresh milk and fresh eggs from the free range hens running around the field within site of the Barn window. The beds were wonderfully comfortable with deep thick quilts and pillows. The decor throughout was tastefully done and gave the overall impression of being snug and cosy. I thought that from the pictures the Barn it would be chilly especially with the high ceilings. This is not the case as the Central Heating does an excellent job and if you feel the need, the log fire is an excellent away to stay cosy. The views especially from the high framed windows overlooking the countryside are fantastic (The website picture does not do it justice). Our weather was not particularly brilliant with lots of rain and wind, but watching the weather patterns change over the hills and to see the rabbits, sheep, lambs and hens running around was brilliant. Even in the Kitchen and Bathroom the skylights afford a good view of the countryside. In the distance you can see the smoke stack of the West Somerset Railway steam train go by. Although the main road is nearby you cannot hear the very light traffic and occasionally you may glimpse the top of a lorry or bus as it goes by (A bonus for us as we live next to the M3!). There’s lots of opportunity to go walking across the Quantocks and Exmoor which we did and we explored the local single track lanes by car, the challenge of which I really enjoyed. All the local towns and villages along the coast (not forgetting Exmoor either) were well worth a visit and two of the local pubs in nearby villages serve up some excellent evening meals (you'll have to read the visitors book to find out which ones!). As a rule we do not usually stay at the same place twice but in this case we would definately make the exception to that rule.

We have just spent a great week at 'Flora's Barn' and couldn't have asked for anything more from a self catering property.
The barn is so well equipped and was a peaceful, warm haven after a day of walking.
The log burning stove was amazing and the bed was super comfy.
Amazing!

I really can't say enough about this wonderful accommodation and the beautiful countryside surrounding it. We stayed in The Old Bakery which was lovely and so cosy at the beginning of February and our hosts made us feel very welcome, as did the inhabitants of Crowcombe that we met in the pub and shop. We had everything we needed in the cottage and were so sorry to leave a day early due to the forecast of snow - which did materialise! We would definitely like to go back.

The Quantocks must be the West Country's best kept secret and I hesitate to write this review as I would like them to remain secret and undiscovered. However, that would not be fair for Town End Farm Cottages in the village of Crowcombe. Wonderfully accessible being only 8 miles from the M5 at Taunton, Crowcombe and neighbouring villages nestle comfortably in stunning countryside of ancient forests and open moorland within striking distance of the coast. A steam train runs through the valley; this is in keeping in this area where time seeems to stand still. I stayed at 'The Old Bakery', Town End Farm which, together with its neighbouring cottage 'Flora's Barn', represents the very best in self catering accommodation. Cosy, wonderfully comfortable, full of charm and character and superbly equipped to the very highest standard this is the best holiday cottage I have ever stayed in. I loved the chickens, sheep and pony in the adjoining fields, the divinely comfortable bed and the two bathrooms with power shower and luxury bath - a must after a day's walking! I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I was priviledged to have this wonderful place all to myself but the spacious accommodation in each cottage is for four

Room Tip: Dogs welcome and you can even bring a horse or two!

The Old Bakery is superb. Everything you need for an excellent holiday is there.

Bruce & Kirsty make you feel extremely welcome and the fresh scones, jam & clotted cream absolutely divine.

Its the small personal touches that make this a very home from home holiday destination.

Well Done to Bruce & Kirsty & many thanks for a great holiday - keep up the good work!!
