“Travelodge up's it's game”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

On a flying visit to Teesside we booked in to the Darlington Travelodge. This was not our first visit but the transformation was a big surprise. We were greeted by a cheery chap who welcomed us to "the best Travelodge in the Country." We laughed at the time but we soon found out he wasn't joking. New comfy pocket-sprung beds and pillows plus bedding and curtains all lifted the spirits after a really good night's sleep. Impossible to fault on this evidence. Nice one Travelodge. You have now set the barrier much higher for all the rest of your hotels and we will return to your Darlington place whenever we are in the area, which is often.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear of the hotel looking onto the car park as it is quieter.

Normally stay at the Premier Inn just up the road but thought I would give this year old Travel Lodge a try. Not disappointed at all. Very modern, clean rooms and friendly reception throughout our two night stay. The Premier Inn has a Beefeater Restaurant attached to it but the Travel Lodge has a Toby Carvery next door. Easy to eat and have a drink at bargain prices without having to drive. Ample well lit free car parking at the rear of the hotel. Late night entry to the hotel reception area and again to the lift/staircase is by using your room entry card and is therefore very secure. Our room was very modern and clean with a flat screen tv. and heated via a convector heater which you can adjust to your liking. Good powerful shower but could do with a shelf for your soap/gel etc instead of in the shower tray and having to bend down. Good competition to the Premier Inn about 500m away and would definitely stay again.

I have been in Darlington twice now in the last couple of months. This time I tried this hotel. It is only a year old and is in very good order. A cheap place but clean all the staff I dealt with seemed happy and very helpful. Food is not served in the hotel and the only restaurant within easy walking distance is the Toby Carvery right next door. So one should not hold the incompetence of the Toby against the hotel. The hotel was good value for the price.

I stayed at the Travelodge with my husband and our two children. Our room was spacious and the bed was lovely and soft, the hotel has undergone a refurbishment recently I believe. The staff were lovely, both on check in and check out. If we were to stay in Darlington again I would book to stay here without hesitation. Great value and great hotel, cant recommend enough!

Room Tip: family rooms are big

Stayed Friday and Saturday night. Check in was fast - checked in by a guy called Jimmy - really friendly and professional. Hotel was recently done up so everything was new and clean. Room was clean and had 2 separate beds for the kids which was a bonus - no manky old sofa bed here! There weren't enough towel's for all of us but we asked for more and they were delivered quickly. There is no hairdryer in the room but we got one from reception. My only gripe is it was very hot at night and as our room faced the road, we couldn't keep the window open for too long as there was a lot of noise. I'd recommend this hotel and can only hope that its a sign of the direction that travelodge are moving to as I haven't stayed in for years, preferring Premier Inn. Well done Darlington.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road.

Stayed one night on business. Hotel is quite new - everything was clean, comfortable and worked properly. Staff were helpful & friendly. Only gripe is the WiFi - £10 for 24 hours seems a bit steep by todays standards - especially for a fairly slow connection. But that aside, its probably as good a value room to be found anywhere.
